Still, Toronto held on for a 4–3 win thanks to a masterful performance from Dylan Cease. Given their offensive woes, the club will likely need a similarly dominant performance from trade-deadline acquisition Jose Soriano. The former Angels right-hander has posted a strong 2.76 ERA in his first three starts (16.1 IP) with the Blue Jays. While he hasn’t faced the Yankees this year, Soriano spun seven shutout frames in the Bronx in June 2025 — against a lineup that included Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
New York Yankees
Amid a torrent of unfortunate injury news for the Yankees, they’ll catch a break Sunday afternoon in the form of a returning Cody Bellinger. The former MVP will look to strengthen an offense that has looked completely lost without Aaron Judge — one that has mustered just eight hits compared to 24 strikeouts across the first two games of this series.
That type of offense places a ton of responsibility on Carlos Rodon. The veteran southpaw performed well in his first start back from the injured list, holding the Orioles to a run on two hits over four frames on a strict pitch limit. With a longer leash on Sunday, Rodon will look to capitalize against a similarly lifeless Toronto offense for a second time this season; he tossed five innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts in his first try on May 21.
Blue Jays vs. Yankees Pick, Best Bet
The Blue Jays and the Yankees are saddled with two of the most stagnant offenses in MLB — a stoppable force versus a moveable object. They have combined for fewer than 7.5 runs in eight of their 12 matchups this season, including five straight heading into Sunday afternoon. While Jose Soriano is no Dylan Cease, nor is Carlos Rodon a Cam Schlittler, both are respectable starters who are fully capable of moving down weak offenses. Expect another low-scoring affair in the final meeting between these American League East rivals.
