A new Jason Statham movie always arrives with a fairly clear promise. He will play a quiet man with a violent past. Somebody will underestimate him, and that mistake will require, all told, at least several ambulances. Mutiny puts this version of Statham aboard a cargo ship. He plays Cole Reed, a former police officer and Special Forces operative working private security. After his billionaire employer is murdered, Reed gets framed and starts hunting the people responsible.
Jean-François Richet directs after previously making Plane, so the transportation joke has written itself. Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, Jason Wong, and Adrian Lester join Statham. Prime Video accidentally streamed the entire film before its theatrical opening, then quickly removed it.

Rotten Tomatoes currently lists 72 reviews, with 53% landing on the positive side. Its Popcornmeter has received more than 50 verified ratings, though no stable audience score has appeared.
IMDb users have given Mutiny a 5.7/10 from roughly 2,300 votes. Metacritic sits at 53, placing the film within its “Mixed or Average” range. Letterboxd reviews are also arriving, though the site’s public average has yet to settle.
What the Ratings Say About Mutiny
The 53% score fits the response to Mutiny. Critics generally enjoyed Statham and the fights, especially once Reed boards the cargo ship. Richet uses its staircases, corridors, machinery, and railings well. A staircase brawl and an Audi sequence received particular praise. Statham handles the rest through the same clipped dialogue and physical assurance that have carried his recent action movies.
The complaints mostly concern the script. The conspiracy feels generic, the trafficking subplot receives little development, and most supporting characters function as directions toward Reed’s next fight. Annabelle Wallis gets some useful action, though nobody around Statham develops enough personality to complicate his revenge mission.
Mutiny sits below Shelter at 64% and The Beekeeper at 71%, while narrowly beating A Working Man at 46%. It also trails Richet’s Plane at 79% and Blood Father at 89%. Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ultimately reached the same conclusion: the action works better than the story. At 95 minutes, the movie moves quickly enough for that trade to remain acceptable.
