When you’re playing your first game of a new season as the defending champions, what better way to start it off than with an opponent who was just promoted from the Championship? Arsenal will ease into the new season with a great matchup, and they should get the victory here.
Despite the Gunners having the best defense a season ago, I do think both teams will get on the scoresheet here. Jurrien Timber and William Saliba are out with injuries at the moment, and even though it was against lower competition, Coventry scored goals for fun last season. The Sky Blues netted 97 times last season in 46 games, which is an average of over two goals per game. They scored 15 more times than any other team in the division. If they do score in this one, it might not count towards getting a result, but I think they find a way to score against a weakened Arsenal defense.
On the flip side, I can see the Gunners scoring three or four times here in a comfortable victory. Arsenal won 15 of their 19 home games in the Premier League last season, and I could see them continuing to make the Emirates a fortress in 2026/27. The Gunners are huge favorites to win the league again for this season and I expect them to get off the mark with a fairly straightforward victory.
