The college football season is almost here. The Pac-12 is back after it seemed as if the conference could be gone for good. After a brief period of a two-team conference of Oregon State and Washington State, there are now eight teams ready to go to battle for the first Pac-12 title of this new era.

Here is a breakdown of the odds to win the Pac-12, the win totals for each team and the best futures bets to make

Pac-12 Preview

The Pac-12 is back! After two seasons with no Pac-12 After Dark, college football fans get West Coast football back in their lives. Now, this will not look the same as the old Pac-12. The conference used to be full of real College Football Playoff contenders like Oregon, Washington, Utah and USC. The quality of teams has taken a significant drop-off in this new version of the conference, but the entertainment level should remain high.

The only holdovers from the old Pac-12 are Washington State and Oregon State, who were both left out of joining a new conference when the old Pac-12 dissolved. They are being joined by five of the best teams from the old Mountain West and Texas State to make this new conference. They will not be a “power conference,” but in the 12-team CFP era, the Pac-12 has a great chance of regularly getting that fifth automatic bid to the postseason.

Best Pac-12 Futures

Boise State to win the Pac-12 (+164)

The most notable addition to the Pac-12 is Boise State. The Broncos have been one of the best non-Power Five programs over the past two decades, and made the College Football Playoff in 2024. They are the favorites to win the first conference title in this new Pac-12 era, and deservedly so. This will be the fourth year under Spencer Danielson in Boise, and after a down season in 2025, the Broncos should be ready to bounce back.

Maddux Madsen is back at quarterback after getting a lot of experience under his belt last season. Madsen is likely the second-best quarterback in this conference. Boise State doesn’t even need that much out of Madsen due to its incredible running game. The running back duo of Sire Gaines and Dylan Riley is as good as it gets at the Group of Six level. If Madsen can just play smart football and work the play-action, this offense will have no problem scoring against anyone in this conference.

Boise State is also going to be the best team in the trenches in this conference. They have the best athletes on both sides of the line to control every game that they play in the Pac-12. Their three toughest opponents are likely to be Fresno State, San Diego State and Texas State, and the Broncos get two of those three games at home on the Smurf Turf. It’s difficult to imagine a world where they don’t make the conference title game, and they will almost certainly be favorites in that title game. That makes this price of +164 to win the Pac-12 hard to pass up.

Texas State Over 6.5 Wins (+120)

Texas State is the one team in the conference that wasn’t a member of the old Pac-12 or Mountain West. The Bobcats are also the furthest east team geographically in the conference. They got the call to join from the Sun Belt because of the exciting program that G.J. Kinne is building in San Marcos. After his own football career ended, Kinne learned under some great offensive minds, most notably Gus Malzahn, and quickly rose through the ranks to become a Division I head coach.

Kinne has done an impressive job at Texas State, building them into a winner. This move to the Pac-12 is a great chance for Kinne to show what this program could be. He has the best quarterback in the conference, Brad Jackson, and the best wide receiver group in the conference, led by Beau Sparks and Chris Dawn. This should be one of the most exciting offenses to watch in the nation. The obvious issues for the Bobcats come on the other side of the ball, where they should struggle defensively for the second straight season.

Texas State could beat anyone in the conference in a shootout, but their issues on defense are why I see them falling short against a team like Boise State in the conference title game. Also, if there is a week when the offense isn’t clicking, they could also lose to almost anyone because of their poor defense.

The schedule breaks favorably for the Bobcats, getting key games like Washington State, Utah State and Fresno State at home. If they start strong in the non-conference against in-state rivals North Texas and UTSA, they will be on a great path to get over this win total. This is a bowl team, and they have a ceiling to get to the Pac-12 Championship Game if the offense hits its ceiling. This team has a great chance to win eight or nine games and cruise over this win total.
