Kayla Thornton O 8.5 Points (-113)
Thornton has been rock solid as a scorer recently, reaching double figures in seven of her last 11. During this stretch, she is shooting 46.6% from the field and 45.1% on three-pointers. Included in this run is an 11-point outing vs. the Wings on Aug. 7, who Thornton will be facing again tonight.
No. 1 pick Azzi Fudd (knee) missed that matchup and she will remain sidelined tonight, which makes this a very friendly matchup. With Fudd inactive for the last four, Dallas ranks second-to-last in defensive rating and the club is giving up 95.8 PPG. Also, Janelle Salaun (knee) is questionable for the Valkyries and if she sits, Thornton could benefit from some extra usage. Nevertheless, this is a terrific spot for Thornton and clearing 8.5 points shouldn’t be difficult for her.
Veronica Burton O 1.5 Made Three-Pointers (+135)
Burton has been awesome from deep recently. The guard has knocked down multiple treys in six of her last eight and she is shooting 42.1% on three-pointers during this span. Burton just went 3-of-7 from beyond the arc vs. the Wings on Aug. 7 and she should have another strong performance as an outside shooter with Fudd out again for Dallas.
With the UConn product sidelined for the last four, the Wings rank second-to-last in defensive rating and they are allowing the most made three-pointers per game in the league (11.8).
Arike Ogunbowale U 15.5 Points (-123)
Ogunbowale has scored 21 and 20 points in her last two, but these performances came with Jessica Shepard (ankle) inactive. Listed as probable, the forward will return tonight and Ogunbowale’s numbers should suffer dramatically. The veteran is averaging 20.5 PPG with a 29% usage rate with Shepard inactive (two games), but 14.5 PPG with a 22.3% usage rate with Shepard active (33 games).
Another concern is that this is a horrible matchup vs. the Valkyries, who rank first in defensive rating and dead last in pace. Playing alongside Shepard vs. the Valkyries on Aug. 7, Ogunbowale was held to just five points on 2-of-10 shooting in 26 minutes.
