Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers prediction, pick for MLB on Monday 8/17/26

Los Angeles reaches Coors Field at 74-51 with first place intact and its offensive swagger temporarily misplaced. The Dodgers have lost 11 of 16, including three of four against Milwaukee. They are 5-10 during August and 18-21 since July began. Their offense has averaged 3.33 runs this month and 3.57 across the past week. Colorado stands 50-74 after hammering San Francisco 13-7 on Sunday. That victory secured the season series and supplied a welcome dose of clubhouse oxygen. Los Angeles owns a 7-3 advantage in this year’s meetings. The Dodgers also begin their 11th consecutive game day, a significant burden for their bullpen. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Rockies vs. Dodgers prediction, preview

Blake Snell makes his second start after a three-month injured-list absence. His return against Kansas City produced six innings, one run, three walks, and 10 strikeouts. He reached 97.5 mph and finished with more whiffs than several healthy starters produce across two outings. Snell has recorded 15 strikeouts, three walks, nine hits, and zero homers across nine innings this season. His 83.6-mph exit velocity, 13.6% hard-hit rate, zero barrels, and .238 xwOBA cover only 22 batted balls. Tomoyuki Sugano owns a 12-5 record, 4.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 66 strikeouts across 113⅔ innings. His 5.41 FIP and 24 homers reveal the tinder beneath that record.

Sugano’s seven-pitch vocabulary has generated variety without producing enough missed bats. He uses a splitter 21.5%, four-seamer 20.5%, and sinker 19.4%, then distributes four different breaking balls. Opponents own a .392 xwOBA against him with a 90.7-mph average exit velocity. His 43.4% hard-hit rate, 13.7% barrel rate, and 15.4-degree launch angle create an appalling Coors combination. Shohei Ohtani is already 5-for-8 against Sugano with three homers and a double. Ohtani owns a .289/.389/.542 line, 27 homers, and a .404 xwOBA. His 93.5-mph exit velocity, 52.8% hard-hit rate, and 16.4% barrels give that history considerable predictive muscle.

The Dodgers confirmed an imposing first seven around Ohtani. Andy Pages bats second, followed by Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Kyle Tucker, Teoscar Hernández, and Max Muncy. Freeman carries a .301/.376/.465 line with 15 homers. Pages owns 20 homers and went deep Sunday, while Muncy homered and drove in eight runs last week. Betts is batting .236 with 15 homers and 40 RBI, although his recent at-bats have improved. Tucker has fallen to .232 with 11 homers, 54 RBI, and a .700 OPS. He went hitless across the past six games. Sugano’s contact profile offers an exquisitely timed restorative against a lineup overdue for competent sequencing.

Dodgers vs. Rockies pick, best bet

Colorado’s counterattack lost considerable heft when Hunter Goodman remained outside the starting lineup. His 34 homers and 16.7% barrel rate would have supplied the best right-handed answer to Snell. Jake McCarthy instead carries the opening burden. He recently won National League Player of the Week after batting .519 with a 1.352 OPS. McCarthy collected 14 hits, two homers, three doubles, eight runs, and three steals across six games. His season includes a .306 average, 13 homers, 25 doubles, 67 RBI, and 20 steals. Mickey Moniak owns 19 homers, a .356 wOBA, and .268 isolated power. His 1.079 home OPS exposes how violently Coors amplifies his swing.

Colorado’s bullpen owns a 4.86 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 63 homers, and 188 walks. Los Angeles sits at 3.98, though recent workload strips some comfort from that difference. Several primary Dodgers relievers have carried meaningful innings during an uninterrupted 11-game stretch. Denver expects roughly 90 degrees with only a mild crosswind. Warm air and altitude should punish Sugano’s elevated contact before either bullpen enters. Dodgers -259 and -1.5 at -171 demand impossible prices from a cold, tired favorite. Under 10.5 asks Sugano and Colorado’s bullpen to survive seven dangerous Dodgers. Over 10.5 -120 remains playable only through -120. The failure mode is Snell smothering Colorado while Los Angeles’ August malaise continues. Sugano’s .392 xwOBA provides enough firewood for Los Angeles to shoulder most of the total.

Best bet: Over 10.5 -120, playable only through -120.

Projected score: Dodgers 7, Rockies 5.

Best bet: Dodgers vs. Rockies o10.5 total runs score (-120)
