Prediction, pick for Rafael Tobias vs. Lucas Fernando at UFC 330

Brazilian light heavyweight prospects collide on Saturday night as Rafael Tobias faces the debuting Lucas Fernando at UFC 330: Makhachev vs. Machado Garry in Philadelphia.

Tobias (14–2, 0–1 UFC) landed on the wrong side of the judges’ scorecards in his promotional debut against Diyar Nurgozhay in March. Fernando (13–3, 0–0 UFC) makes his first walk to the Octagon after a dominant title reign in LFA, capped by back-to-back first-round TKOs.

Fernando enters as a hefty -298 moneyline favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook. Tobias is a +240 underdog, with the fight total set at O/U 2.5 rounds.

Tobias vs. Fernando Preview

Rafael Tobias

  • 14–2 (0–1 UFC)
  • 5–1 (T)KO
  • 6–0 SUB

Rafael Tobias is eager to bounce back after dropping a decision to Diyar Nurgozhay in his Octagon debut earlier this year — to remind viewers why the promotion signed him in the first place. At 23, the Brazilian prospect combines raw power with a lethal ground game. He arrived in the UFC riding a six-fight win streak, punctuated by a first-round submission of Jair de Oliveira on Dana White’s Contender Series last fall.

While still a promising young talent, “Bipolar” will likely have to show a more polished version of himself on Saturday night — particularly by patching up his porous striking defense. Nurgozhay landed nearly 100 significant strikes at a whopping 65 percent clip en route to the lopsided decision.

Lucas Fernando

  • 13–3 (0–0 UFC)
  • 7–0 (T)KO
  • 2–0 SUB

Lucas Fernando has rebounded swiftly after coming up short in his summer 2023 appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. He returns as a two-division LFA champion and the promotion’s reigning light heavyweight titleholder.

The 29-year-old Brazilian has won four straight bouts on the back of his elite, technical kickboxing — including back-to-back, first-round TKOs in championship bouts. While he struggled to keep up with veteran Cesar Almeida on DWCS, Fernando enters his UFC debut with a proven track record against strong competition and a jarring six-inch reach advantage.

Tobias vs. Fernando Pick, Best Bet

Fernando is a heavy favorite for a reason, entering his UFC debut with a superior strength of schedule, a clear edge on the feet, and a serious reach advantage. He should control distance and capitalize against Tobias’ weak defense. Tobias will likely mix in his grappling, which could prolong the bout into the later rounds. But Fernando has all the necessary tools to ride it out and secure the win   — and potentially extend his stoppage streak.

Best Bet: Lucas Fernando To Win and Over 1.5 Rounds (+100)
