Yankees vs. Blue Jays NRFI (-125)
Cam Schlittler will attempt to bolster his Cy Young candidacy on Saturday when he takes on the Blue Jays. Through 146.2 innings (25 starts), the right-hander has notched a 2.21 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 182 strikeouts (11.2 K/9). He’s allowed one earned run or less in three of his last four outings. To boot, the All-Star is sporting a stellar 84.0% NRFI rate this season. On paper, tonight’s matchup shouldn’t be too difficult. The Jays are averaging 3.91 runs per game, second-fewest in baseball. In addition, Toronto owns an MLB-worst 21.77% YRFI rate.
On the other side, Braydon Fisher will get to kick things off as an opener. All things considered, it’s been a solid campaign from the reliever. Over 61.0 innings, he’s recorded a 3.54 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 57 strikeouts (8.4 K/9). During the month of August, he’s tossed nine straight scoreless frames. There’s a good chance that continues against New York’s anemic offense. Since July 1st, the Yankees rank 28th in the league with 131 runs scored. The Pinstripes have a 25.0% YRFI rate on the road, 12th-worst in baseball. Fisher has allowed a first inning run only once over eight career starts (88% NRFI).
Orioles vs. Rays NRFI (-145)
Baltimore will hand the ball to its best pitcher tonight in Kyle Bradish. During 127.0 innings (23 starts) of work, he’s delivered a 3.69 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 121 strikeouts (8.6 K/9). The fifth-year pro is a first inning specialist, delivering a terrific 90.9% NRFI rate this season. He’ll hope to keep that streak going on the road against red-hot Tampa Bay. For all their recent success, this is a spot the AL East leaders might struggle in. Over his previous three meetings with the Rays, Bradish has allowed just three earned runs (1.56 ERA).
As for the home team, it’ll be Ian Seymour toeing the slab on Saturday. On an otherwise elite rotation, the 27-year-old is merely serviceable. Still, that should be enough to escape the first inning unscathed tonight. On the season, the left-hander has posted a solid 4.08 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 90.1 innings. Even more important, the Orioles often struggle to get their bats going early. Baltimore’s 25.41% YRFI rate is sixth-worst in the majors. That alone is enough reason to fade the visitors at the plate this evening.
