Red Sox vs. Blue Jays NRFI (-165)
Boston’s rotation has been fantastic this season, ranking near the top in most pitching categories. Patrick Sandoval, recovering after a lengthy injury absence, has slotted in nicely for the Red Sox. Over five starts this season, the left-hander has notched a 3.38 ERA and 25 strikeouts (9.4 K/9). During each of those appearances, the hurler has yet to allow a first inning run. Tonight, he’ll take on a Toronto offense that ranks 29th in baseball with 3.93 runs per game. In addition, the Blue Jays have produced an American League-worst 22.50% YRFI rate this season.
On the other side, it’ll be Cy Young hopeful Dylan Cease on the bump. Through 126.1 innings (21 starts), the right-hander has recorded a 2.28 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 184 strikeouts (13.1 K/9). It’s also worth mentioning that he leads all of baseball with a 0.5 HR/9 ratio. The Red Sox have turned things around recently at the plate, but this is no offensive juggernaut. They only rank 22nd in the majors with a .702 OPS against righties. Boston also owns the league’s third-worst YRFI rate on the road (20.69%). That doesn’t bode well going into a showdown with one of the sport’s elite arms.
Royals vs. Dodgers NRFI (-115)
Kansas City has been a disappointment this season, but 14th-year pro Michael Wacha has enjoyed a terrific campaign. The veteran comes into Tuesday with a 3.44 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 112 strikeouts (7.0 K/9). Unsurprisingly, those numbers were good enough to warrant a second career All-Star Game selection. On paper, tonight’s contest presents a major challenge for the soft-tossing righty. Los Angeles ranks third in baseball with 5.02 runs per game, featuring a star-powered lineup. With that being said, this offense has scored 35 runs over its last ten matchups. That’s tied for the sixth-worst mark in the majors during that stretch.
LA will counter tonight with two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell. The 33-year-old has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, including this season. However, he’s a force on the mound when healthy. This will be the southpaw’s second appearance of the season, and his first since May 9th. That’s not the most advantageous spot, especially for the purposes of this bet. However, Snell has recorded a career 83% NRFI rate when pitching at Dodger Stadium. In comparison, the Royals wield baseball’s 24th-ranked offense in runs per game (4.14). All signs are pointing to a clean first inning in Los Angeles tonight.
