The Wyndham Championship wrapped up on Sunday, with the top 70 players in the FedExCup points list advancing to the first tournament in this year’s FedExCup playoffs. As we get ready for the three-week-long chase for the FedExCup Championship, let’s take a look at who played their way into the playoffs, review the structure of the FedExCup playoffs, and then run down the list of the top 70 players who advanced to the first leg of the playoffs.
The PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs can be a little confusing to casual fans since tournaments will continue through the FedExCup Fall with players looking to improve their status even after the playoffs. Even though the playoffs aren’t the end of the season for most players, let’s take a look at what’s coming up in the coming weeks on the PGA TOUR.
Who moved into the FedExCup Playoffs this week?
The top 70 players in the FedExCup points qualified for the St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis next week. The Wyndham Championship always brings an extra layer of drama as players look to move off the bubble and into the top 70, in addition to the race at the top of the leaderboard.
Only Wyndham champion Michael Brennan moved from outside the top 70 into the top 70 with his performance this week. Brennan started the week at No. 105 in the FedExCup Points list and jumped up to No. 46 with his second career PGA TOUR victory. The 24-year-old jumped from the PGA Tour Americas to full-time PGA TOUR membership with his win at the Bank of Utah Championship and now will qualify for his first postseason.
Jackson Koivun is also ready for his FedExCup Playoffs debut after finishing at No. 70 in the standings, the same place he started the week. The 21-year-old Koivun won the 3M Open two weeks ago and did just enough to get into the playoffs a tthe Wyndham.
The only player falling out of the top 70 was Steven Fisk, who started the week at No. 69 and dropped to No. 71 after missing the cut in three straight weeks after winning the ISCO Championship. Matt Wallace and Davis Thompson each improved their standings this week but finished just outside the top 70. Beau Hossler also made a great run, but the veteran needed a win to get into the playoffs and ultimately came up short.
How do the FedExCup Playoffs work?
The FedExCup Playoffs begin with the top 70 players in the FedExCup points standings playing at the St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis. The top 50 after that event advance to the BMW Championship, which will be held this year at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. The top 50 also secure entry into the Signature Events in 2027 and qualify for the top events, which will be critical to earning a spot on the Championship Series when it begins in 2028.
After the BMW Championship, the top 30 players move on to the TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. There will be no starting strokes again this season, as all 30 players start at even par with a chance at the FedEx Cup, which comes with a $10 million top prize from the event’s $40 million official purse.
All three events will be four-round tournaments that do not have a cut, allowing all players to play four rounds barring withdrawal or disqualification. The format could change in the near future, but this year’s playoff events will follow the same format as last year’s.
