San Francisco Giants vs. Detroit Tigers prediction, pick for MLB on Friday 8/07/26

Detroit reaches Oracle Park at 56-59 after taking two of three in Seattle and winning both victories by a combined 19-0. The Tigers have produced at least eight runs in seven of their last eight games, turning a once-inconsistent offense into the hottest unit on this late board. San Francisco returns home at 48-67 after an open date, with the Giants carrying four additional losses despite playing six fewer games. Detroit traded Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize, but its remaining roster has gone 34-21 since May ended and remains alive around the crowded American League wild-card race. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Giants vs. Tigers prediction, preview

Keider Montero has become a stabilizing force behind the departed stars. He owns an 8-6 record, 3.17 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 81 strikeouts across 116⅓ innings. Montero just limited The Athletics to two hits across six scoreless innings, lowering his Statcast marks to a .291 xwOBA, .386 xSLG, 88.7 mph exit velocity, and 7.1% barrel rate. His five-pitch mix includes a four-seamer, sinker, slider, changeup, and knuckle curve. The 17.4% strikeout rate remains modest, but his 5.4% walk rate and 12.7% popup rate help him survive without overpowering hitters.

San Francisco counters with an opener rather than a conventional starter. JT Brubaker has worked exclusively from the bullpen, posting a 3.17 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 52⅓ innings. He pitched Tuesday and should carry a limited workload Friday, even though five appearances have extended beyond three innings. Brubaker’s surface results hide considerably shakier contact indicators. His 4.51 xERA, .425 xSLG, 17.8% strikeout rate, and 10.2% walk rate leave little margin against Detroit’s relentless current lineup. His sinker receives 48.5% usage and has allowed a .525 xSLG with 45.5% hard contact.

Dillon Dingler enters on an outrageous heater after batting .327 with 16 hits, four homers, 12 RBI, and nine runs across his last 10 games. He homered in all three games at Seattle, finishing the series 7-for-14 with three blasts and six RBI. Dingler now owns 26 homers, 78 RBI, and an .877 OPS. Kevin McGonigle also homered Thursday, while Detroit surrounded those blasts with sustained traffic throughout an 11-run performance. Brubaker’s sinker-heavy shape should provide early contact, and his quick exit exposes Detroit to a Giants bullpen forced to cover nearly the entire game.

Tigers vs. Giants pick, best bet

The Giants still carry enough left-handed quality to challenge Montero. Rafael Devers has batted .333/.414/.458 across seven games and .269/.372/.519 with eight homers across 30. Montero’s low strikeout rate permits balls in play, and San Francisco received Thursday’s rest advantage while Detroit completed a daytime game in Seattle before traveling. Oracle Park also strengthens the home side’s ability to keep the margin close. First pitch should arrive near 62 degrees before temperatures fall into the upper 50s, giving the marine air another chance to suppress Detroit’s airborne power.

That environment makes over 8.5 difficult, but it does not erase Detroit’s side advantage. The Tigers own the only traditional starter, the hotter lineup, and the strongest current middle-order bat. San Francisco must navigate nine innings through a bullpen game beginning with an opener working on two days’ rest. Detroit’s -128 moneyline is slightly too expensive for a road favorite under the preferred price ceiling. The +124 run line converts the same matchup advantage into a better number and asks Montero to protect a margin created against several Giants relievers.

Best bet: Tigers -1.5 (+124), playable through +110.

Projected score: Tigers 6, Giants 2.

Best bet: Tigers -1.5 (+125) at Giants
