Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves prediction, pick for Thursday 8/6/26

An NL East clash with postseason stakes is on tap tonight at Truist Park. The Marlins (58-57) have been a roller coaster ride, alternating between red-hot and ice-cold. However, as things stand on August 6th, Miami finds itself three games out of a playoff spot in the National League. As for the Braves (69-45), they’re looking to establish themselves as a World Series contender. Taking care of business against a rival would give Atlanta a boost heading into a marquee series with the Yankees this weekend. Which side will come out on top this evening?

The Braves are favorites (-140) over the Marlins, with the over/under set at nine runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Thursday’s showdown between Miami and Atlanta on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Marlins vs. Braves pick, best bet today

  • Braves ML (-140): Junk has been a middle of the road arm, and struggled during his previous outing vs. Atlanta. As for Perez, he’s been a difficult pitcher to hit when taking the mound at home. All signs are pointing to an eighth straight Braves victory on Thursday.

Marlins vs. Braves prediction, preview

Janson Junk has been the spitting image of a league-average starter in 2026. Through 78.2 innings (15 starts), he’s notched a 4.58 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 61 strikeouts (7.0 K/9). Middle of the road numbers across the board for the 30-year-old. A look at Junk’s Savant numbers paint a similar picture. He’s below the 20th percentile in average exit velocity (90.1 MPH), whiff rate (16.5%) and strikeout rate (18.1%). The veteran makes up for it somewhat with stellar command (2.5 BB/9), but that’s the only thing he does well. To boot, he has a mediocre 5.28 ERA during six appearances on the road this season.

Miami’s hurler will need to be at his best tonight against one of baseball’s best offensive units. The Braves are sixth in runs scored (557), fourth in home runs (152) and eighth in OPS (.732). The NL East leaders are heating up as well, having won seven straight coming into Thursday. Now that Ronald Acuna Jr. is healthy, there aren’t any noticeable holes in this lineup. Five different Atlanta hitters have put up a wRC+ above 100 this season (min. 200 plate appearances). When Junk last faced the Braves on May 20th, he coughed up eight runs over five innings.

Martin Perez will get the nod for the home team, his 17th start of the season. During 97.1 innings pitched, the veteran has recorded a 3.24 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 75 strikeouts (6.9 K/9). He comes into this one fresh off of a seven-inning, one-hit gem against the Nationals on Sunday. Perez’s peripherals are nothing to write home about, much like Junk. However, he does an exceptional job at inducing weak contact. The 35-year-old places within the 75th percentile in barrel rate (6.0%) and ground ball rate (47.9%). In addition, he’s been dominant at home (2.36 ERA).

Perez is poised for yet another solid performance tonight. The Marlins aren’t pushovers at the plate, but this isn’t one of the sport’s better lineups. They’ve scored 116 runs since July 1st, tied for eighth-fewest in baseball during that time. To make matters worse for the Fish, they have the 12th-worst OPS on the road against left-handed pitching (.677). As previously mentioned, Perez excels when it comes to weak contact. Miami owns the league’s fifth-worst barrel rate (6.8%), seventh-slowest average exit velocity (88.3 MPH) and ninth-worst hard-hit rate (37.8%).

Best Bet: Braves ML (-140)

Junk has been unremarkable all season, and there’s nothing that suggests a sudden reversal against Atlanta’s loaded lineup. On the other side, Perez is capable enough (especially at home) to keep Miami’s light-hitting offense in check. For bolder bettors, consider backing Braves -1.5 (+130).
