This feels odd to say about a team that sold off big names at the deadline, but the Orioles enter play on Wednesday just 1.5 games out of the final Wild Card spot in the American League. Also, after they finish up their series with the Angels, they’ll be facing-off with the Twins and the Rangers — two teams directly in front of them in the standings. These are a massive two weeks for the franchise in so many ways.
Can Baltimore pick up another win this evening? Let’s preview this AL clash and make a couple picks on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Angels vs. Orioles prediction, preview
In his final year of arbitration, many assumed Trevor Rogers would be dealt before Monday’s deadline. This was not the case, so the left-hander is free to continue to take the mound for the Orioles. While Rogers’ last outing in Detroit wasn’t the best, the veteran has been on quite the run in recent weeks, posting a 1.85 ERA and a 4.1 K/BB ratio across his past seven starts. Rogers will likely never re-find the form that saw him pitch to a 1.81 ERA over 109.2 innings in 2025, but this has been pretty close.
I assume Rogers’ success continues on Wednesday night, as the Angels aren’t exactly a fearsome opponent at the moment. Over the past 30 days, Los Angeles ranks dead-last in ISO (.107) and 25th in wRC+ (86), and that was mainly before they traded away Jo Adell, who had hit 53 home runs for the team dating back to the beginning of 2025. Adell was also absolutely mashing left-handed pitching to the tune of a .303 average and a 148 wRC+. His absence leaves a huge gap in the Angels’ lineup construction against LHPs like Rogers, one that an incoming bat like the left-handed Moises Ballesteros can not hope to fill.
Speaking of southpaws who most people thought were going to be traded, Reid Detmers will toe the rubber on the other side of this matchup. It was reported that Los Angeles’ asking price for Detmers was high, and it’s hard to blame management for that position. Not only does the LHP have control through the 2028 season, but Detmers has pitched to a 3.39 xERA and a 3.34 FIP so far in 2026. Equipped with a career-low 7.4% walk rate, Detmers looks like a former top prospect who is finally blossoming into an elite arm. It only took half a decade at the MLB level. Who knew?
Angels vs. Orioles pick, best bet
Best Bet: Orioles ML (-118)
The Orioles are 31-29 at home this season and they’ve won six of Trevor Rogers’ last seven starts — a span where the LHP is pitching to a 1.85 ERA. Baltimore may have sold some bats at the deadline, but it still also has more pop in its lineup than Los Angeles, who ranks dead-last in ISO (.107) across the past 30 days.
Strong Lean: Trevor Rogers 6+ Strikeouts (-126)
Rogers has hit this prop in each of his past three starts and now he’ll be going up against an Angels lineup that owns the highest strikeout rate in the league since the All-Star break (26.8%).
