Minnesota enters 56-58 after three straight losses, while Kansas City sits 47-67 following Tuesday’s 8-2 win. The Royals have taken seven of 11 meetings and immediately benefited from Bobby Witt Jr.’s return. Witt went 3-for-5 with a two-run double after missing 11 games with lower-back tightness. Dean Kremer makes his Twins debut against Noah Cameron, who dominated this lineup six days ago. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Kansas City Royals and the Minnesota Twins.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Royals vs. Twins prediction, preview
Pérez brings the stronger current pitching profile. He owns a 5-8 record, 3.44 ERA, and 112 strikeouts. Pérez has allowed three runs or fewer in nine consecutive starts. His five July outings produced a 1.69 ERA, including seven perfect innings against The Athletics. Over the last 30 days, opponents own a .225 xwOBA against him. Pérez builds around a 40.7% four-seamer, then mixes sliders, sinkers, sweepers, changeups, and curves. That arsenal provides several finishing shapes after his high fastball changes hitters’ eye levels.
Elder has also steadied himself, posting a 2.12 ERA across three post-break starts. He enters 7-6 with a 3.84 ERA and 101 strikeouts. His contact profile remains less dominant than Pérez’s, with a 90.2 mph average exit velocity and 41.1% hard-hit rate. Elder’s 6.4% barrel rate supplies the strongest argument for his recent run prevention. He throws sinkers 28.1%, sliders 25.4%, four-seamers 22.7%, cutters 14.9%, and changeups 8.9%. Miami should receive enough pitches in play against a starter carrying a modest strikeout ceiling.
The Marlins have enough recent power to punish those contact opportunities. Griffin Conine has hit .287/.380/.598 across 30 games, with eight homers and 16 RBI. He owns two homers and a .550 slugging percentage over his last seven. Miami also collected eight hits Tuesday before three double plays killed potential rallies. Atlanta’s best counter comes through Matt Olson and Austin Riley. Olson has hit .346/.393/.885 with four homers across seven games. Riley carries a .478 slugging percentage during that span and launched a 433-foot homer Tuesday.
Twins vs. Royals pick, best bet
Byron Buxton remains absent, removing Minnesota’s leading power-speed threat and one of its best fastball hitters. Kauffman Stadium should begin near 78 degrees, with storms more likely after the primary game window. The renovated gaps now sit 10 feet closer, increasing the cost of Kremer’s elevated fly-ball mistakes. Kansas City used four relievers Tuesday, although workload remains less concerning than the group’s overall quality. Kremer’s debut also introduces new catcher, defense, and sequencing variables against an aggressive running team.
The market prices Kansas City at -113 and the total at 8.5, with over juice at -118. Cameron owns the cleaner opening matchup, while Kansas City’s left-handed balance directly targets Kremer’s weakest split. Minnesota’s improved bullpen creates late risk, but the Twins may trail before that advantage matters. The Royals also carry home field, Witt’s restored presence, and the stronger starting-pitcher outlook.
Best bet: Royals moneyline -113, playable through -120.
Projected score: Royals 5, Twins 4.
Best bet: Royals (-115) at Twins
