By several measures, the Seattle Storm are one of the most successful franchises in WNBA history, winning four titles (tied for the most of any team), and all-time greats like Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird have graced their greens and golds. Over the last four seasons, though, Seattle has hit a bit of a rough patch, missing the playoffs in 2023 and losing in the first round in each of 2024 and 2025. The Storm have the league’s worst record so far in 2026.
Seattle could become the first team mathematically eliminated from playoff contention tonight, as if they lose to the New York Liberty at 7:10 p.m. ET and the Washington Mystics clinch their 17th win of the season by topping the Dallas Wings at 7:40 p.m. ET, the Storm will be officially out. In perhaps painful irony, Breanna Stewart — the two-time MVP and three-time champion whose departure after the 2022 season condemned Seattle to its current mediocrity — could be the one to deliver the fatal blow.
Stewart’s Liberty are 8.5-point favorites at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the point total set to 183.5. Below, I’ve detailed my favorite prop bet centered around Stewie.

New York has hardly had a perfect season, but Stewart has been one constant. She’s scored 22 or more points in 14 of her 30 games while making at least half of her field goal attempts 13 times, and she’s especially turned up as of late, averaging 25.1 points per game on 50.8% shooting since the start of July. In that span, she’s reached the 22-point mark in eight of her 11 games, including the Liberty’s win over the Storm on Monday. Among players with at least 250 total minutes played since the start of July, Stewart ranks ninth in usage rate.
Unsurprisingly, the Storm have had a defense consistent with their 6-26 record. For the season, Seattle ranks fifth-to-last in defensive rating, a ranking that remained consistent between June 8 and July 31, when it first shifted to a double-big look featuring both 2025 second overall pick Dominique Malonga and 2026 third overall pick Awa Fam. The Storm have done their best to force opponents into attempting non-restricted paint shots, but that’s where Stewart thrives; she’s attempted the second-most shots per game in the league and connected at a 43.8% rate, roughly average accuracy among the 20 players to attempt at least three such shots per game.
