NASCAR Best Bets for the 2026 Brickyard 400
Race Winner — Denny Hamlin +400
The Brickyard was a bad beat. Hamlin had it. He was one restart away from the win, but his employee in the 6-7 car got the push. Corey Heim cruised to an easy win. Hamlin can’t win them all, but he should. If he should, then he should be on the betting card every week.
Hamlin has struggled in his two races at Iowa — 24th in both 2024 and 2025. Fade or load up. The fade puts too much weight on track history. Few drivers have less series experience at Iowa. No driver has more than two Gen-7 races there. Experience is equal, but motivation is not. Hamlin’s poor Iowa performances can easily be dismissed — but not by Hamlin. He’s on a mission this season. He’s an iRat. Hamlin lives in the simulator. The No. 11 JGR Toyota team had two weeks to prepare for the race in the cornfield.
Race Winner — Carson Hocevar +2500
Track history might mean more than current form. Toyota has all the speed this season, but Byron has the Iowa notes. The No. 24 setup is elite. Byron led 141 laps and won the 2025 race. He was the runner-up in 2024.
This hasn’t been a good year for William Byron, or Hendrick Motorsports for that matter. It’s not so much Byron or the organization — the problem is Toyota. JGR and 23XI Racing are juggernauts. It’s hard to catch up if the leader never slows down.
Race Winner — Carson Hocevar +2500
The fastest-growing star in NASCAR is a story, but it’s not the story. The real story is boring. The real story is data. It’s not stats. It’s notes. Chris Gabehart left JGR and signed with Spire Motorsports. JGR accused him of stealing their proprietary data on the way out the door. It appears they have him dead to rights. This is where the stats matter. Suddenly, the little Spire Motorsports cars are the fastest Chevys in the garage. How could this be? The parsimonious answer is that Gabehart stole Toyota’s setups.
Litigating the alleged theft is pointless. Leveraging the alleged edge is the point. The Spire cars are live for wins and top 10s. Hocevar finished ninth at Iowa last season and sixth in his 2024 rookie season. Spire’s odds are suppressed because the team is not a household name. The public isn’t ready to back the stable. They’re a year away from receiving favorite status. Spire will pay out big this season — it’s a matter of targeting the right track. Iowa is one of the newest tracks. The 2026 short-track package is still relatively new. The playing field is as even as it gets at a traditional oval.
