Kelsey Plum Best Prop Bet for Mercury at Sky on Monday 8/3/26

It’s not often that superstars get traded at a sport’s trade deadline to a non-playoff team, but the Los Angeles Sparks made a blockbuster deal in the early hours of Sunday morning to send five-time All-Star Kelsey Plum to the Phoenix Mercury for a package centered around second-year point guard Monique Akoa Makani.

Plum could make her Mercury debut as soon as tonight, as she’s listed as questionable for Phoenix’s 9:10 p.m. ET game against the Chicago Sky and could play, likely on a minutes restriction.

The Mercury are 2.5-point favorites at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the point total set for 179.5. Below, I’ve detailed my favorite prop bet centered around Plum.

Kelsey Plum 15+ Points (+105)

It’s hard to gauge Plum’s ceiling without knowing how many minutes she’d be expected to play, especially since she hasn’t suited up for more than six weeks while dealing with an ankle injury, but 15 points is a pretty low bar for a volume scorer of her quality. She opened the season by scoring 25 or more points in six of her first seven games, and she had a 43-point effort on June 13 against (ironically enough) Phoenix. At her current season average of 25.0 points per 36 minutes, she’d only need to play 22 minutes to reach 15 points, which seems reasonable. Playing with Alyssa Thomas, inarguably the best passing big of all time, certainly won’t hurt.

Plus, her game is well-suited to exploit the Sky’s defense. While Chicago has been good at defending the opposing three-point line and Plum’s 38.3% three-point shooting is a core aspect of her game, her calling card is really her finishing. This season, she’s attempted 4.4 shots per game within five feet and made a whopping 83.0% of her close-range attempts, by far the best accuracy among all players to attempt at least three such shots per game. The Sky have been decent at protecting the rim, limiting opponents to the fifth-lowest percentage from within five feet, but they’ve allowed the third-most shots. Plum’s tough finishing should come in handy.
