Cam Schlittler, New York Yankees vs. St. Louis Cardinals ($11,500) — St. Louis being 27th in strikeouts made me pause a second when hovering over Schlittler, but I looked at the other options, smacked myself in the face, then looked myself right in the eye while facing the mirror and yelled, “It’s not like St. Louis never strikes out!” Schlittler has a robust 30.7% strikeout rate and only 4.8% walk rate through 136.2 innings. The FIP is 2.53 and he’s allowed only 12 home runs. St. Louis is 29th in ISO and 24th in wRC+.

Michael King, San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks ($7,500) — I won’t be placing any crowns on Michael’s head since the FIP is 4.12 with a 11.5% K-BB%. That said, he has pitched at least six innings in five of the last seven games and put up double-digit FPTS in all but one of those contests, with two of those over 20 FPTS. The price isn’t great and the upside isn’t high, but Arizona is only 23rd in wRC+ and the chances are high that King puts up double-digit FPTS.

Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco Giants at Texas Rangers ($3,800) — We always knew that Eldridge had power, but the strikeout rates were a concern in the minors, often exceeding 30%. Through 283 plate appearances this season, the strikeout rate is 26.9% while the walk rate is 13.1% and the ISO is .192. The average exit velocity is 92.2 mph with a 12.4% barrel rate and 73.7 mph bat speed. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 126 with a .199 ISO. In addition, he’s been batting 1, 2 or 3 in the batting order recently. Cal Quantrill has a 5.07 FIP and 8.6% K-BB% against lefties this season. They are slashing .273/.355/.446 against him with five home runs.

Miguel Rojas, Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs ($2,200) — The upside isn’t high and the matchup isn’t great, but Rojas is cheap and has success against left-handed pitching. Rojas is slashing .306/.352/.480 with a .173 ISO and 127 wRC+ in 108 plate appearances against left-handed pitching. He’s put up double-digit FPTS seven times this season with a high of 22 FPTS.

Cedric Mullins, Tampa Bay Rays at Colorado Rockies ($4,200) — I hate Mullins. Fine, that’s too strong of a word. I often despise Mullins because he always induces me to fall for the banana in the tailpipe. That 30/30 back in 2021 is always floating around in my brain. And he still has the power and speed. Unfortunately, he often has difficulty making contact. Which is kind of a big thing. That said, the launch angle is 26.8% while the pull rate is 46.6%. He has 13 home runs and 16 stolen bases in 365 plate appearances. Now he bats in Coors Field and will face Michael Lorenzen, who has a 6.02 FIP and 5.8% K-BB% against lefties. 12 of the 16 home runs allowed have come off the bat of a lefty.

Grant McCray, San Francisco Giants at Texas Rangers ($2,400) — Drew Gilbert started most of the games in center field after Harrison Bader went down due to injury. Then McCray was called up, and he made three straight starts. Now Gilbert is back in the starting lineup. I have no idea how this shakes out, so make sure McCray is in the lineup. Both are good defenders, but Gilbert has a .116 ISO while McCray is at .143. Granted, it’s been only 25 plate appearances, but back in 2024, McCray posted a .177 ISO in 130 plate appearances.
