MLB Best Bets for Red Sox at Dodgers for Sunday Night Baseball 8/2/26

Published:

By: Sean Barnard

Closing down tonight’s 15-game MLB slate, the Boston Red Sox will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers during tonight’s Sunday Night Baseball matchup. The Red Sox have picked up victories in both matchups so far this series, winning 9-4 in the opener and 3-2 last night. Boston will lean on Jake Bennett on the mound tonight, who will challenge Emmet Sheehan and the Dodgers.

The Dodgers enter as -186 favorites and hold +113 odds on the -1.5 run line on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Red Sox hold +153 odds of getting the victory to complete the sweep, with the run total set at 8.5.

For each Major League Baseball matchup, DraftKings Sportsbook has a wide variety of batter and pitcher props on the board, so let’s take a look at my top plays from this fun Sunday night Red Sox-Dodgers matchup.

Red Sox at Dodgers Prop Bets for Sunday 8/2/26

Emmet Sheehan Over 1.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-142)

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking to avoid the sweep against the Red Sox tonight and turn the ball over to Emmet Sheehan. But it has not been a great season for the right-hander, and he is facing the hottest team in baseball. On the season overall, Sheehan is posting a 4.95 ERA, a 1.252 WHIP, and 17 home runs allowed across his 19 starts. Things have not gotten much better of late, as the 26-year-old is posting a 5.17 ERA across his past three outings with nearly a 40% hard hit rate and 9.3% barrel rate.

Boston has been tearing the cover off the ball of late. They rank in the top 10 of all MLB teams in total runs and OPS across the past 30 days. The Red Sox are also posting an impressive .754 OPS and .178 ISO over their past six games, averaging 4.7 runs per game across this stretch.

Sheehan has allowed over 1.5 earned runs in 14 of his 19 starts overall this year. This is even while he has been removed from matchups before eclipsing 100 pitches in 17 of his 19 games. Boston has managed to overcome tougher pitching matchups to start this series, and will be eager to add to these results against Sheehan. Expect the Red Sox to be eager to provide a reminder that the Tarik Skubal trade does not guarantee the Dodgers a World Series just yet. Boston tagged Yoshinobu Yamamoto for three earned runs yesterday, and expect the bats to remain lively with over 1.5 earned runs against Sheehan today.

Jarren Duran Over 0.5 Hits (-135)

It has been an ugly overall season for Jarren Duran. The former All-Star is posting slash lines of .199/.257/.338 with a .595 OPS. He has just 79 hits in his 103 games on the season. But Duran has shown some signs of heating up at the plate and pushing his hitting metrics back to their expected norm. The 29-year-old has tallied three hits through the opening two games in this series, and 12 hits across his past 12 games. He is batting .279 with a .608 OPS and eight RBI tallied across this stretch.

Duran has faced Sheehan just twice in his career, and is 1-for-2 with an RBI tallied. Sheehan struggles more against left-handed hitters, with opposing lefties slashing .250/.314/.490 with a .804 OPS compared to righties slashing .239/.309/.426 with a .734 OPS. Looking at the production from both sides of the plate, opponents are slashing a combined .275/.348/.525 with a .873 OPS in the two starts since the All-Star game. Even with some encouraging underlying metrics, the results have not been great for the Dodgers starter on the field.

With Sheehan still skidding and Duran heating up, back the former All-Star to record a hit in tonight’s matchup. He is a better player than he has played for the bulk of the season and is finally trending back in the right direction. Duran has had success in this matchup in the past, and these are plenty tolerable odds given the circumstances.

Mookie Betts to Record 2+ Total Bases (+150)

Mookie Betts is another player performing below his sky-high standard on the season but showing signs of life. The outlook for the Dodgers at the plate is a bit more difficult with no member of this Los Angeles lineup having faced Red Sox starter Jake Bennett to this point. The rookie has had an impressive start to his MLB career, with a 6-4 record, a 2.74 ERA, a 0.975 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts tallied across his first 11 starts.

One takeaway in Bennett’s early statistical profile is the 25-year-old struggling more against right-handed hitting. Left-handers have been limited to slash lines of .153/.194/.153 with a measly .346 OPS on the season. In contrast, right-handed bats are slashing .247/.283/.371 with a .654 OPS. All five home runs allowed have come against right-handed bats.

Betts was limited to one at-bat yesterday, but was on a four-game hitting streak before this and had tallied 11 hits across his previous 10 games. Looking even further back, the former MVP has tallied 30 hits across his past 29 games with slash lines of .261/.309/.435 with a .744 OPS. There are plenty of high-profile left-handed bats in this Dodgers lineup that Bennett will be looking to slow down. But expect Betts to add to the trend of right-handers having more success against the rookie and tally 2+ bases tonight.

If you combine these three Sunday night props into a Same Game Parlay, the odds stack up to a solid +475 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
