Spider-Man: Brand New Day Ratings: Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic & More

Spider-Man swings back into theaters for the first time since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home amid a downturn for superhero movies—and blockbuster franchises more broadly. This summer alone saw Supergirlbomb while The Mandalorian and Grogu and Masters of the Universe underperformed.

However, none of those franchises is Spider-Man. Spidey holds a special place in pop culture, arguably the most popular hero in any universe. Can the friendly neighborhood hero quip his way past superhero fatigue to more box office and audience success?

Here’s how Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scoring on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic, Letterboxd, and more.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Average Rating Across Major Review Sites

After converting Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic, and Letterboxd scores to a 100-point scale, Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently holds an average rating of 84.8/100 across major review platforms. That score reflects a very favorable result for a superhero movie, especially in this moment where that genre has been struggling. As is usually the case, moviegoers rated the film more favorably than professional reviewers, although the delta between the two was surprisingly small at just 7 percent.

The average rating was calculated by converting all available scores to a 100-point scale and averaging the results.

What the Ratings Say About Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It’s fair to say that the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man films have been a giant success since finally bringing the web-slinger into the MCU. All three previous entries – Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home — are certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with both critic and audience scores above 87 percent, as well as huge financial successes at the box office.

It appears as though that will not be changing with Brand New Day. In its critics consensus, Rotten Tomatoes says:

Spinning a web of spectacular set pieces together with mature emotional stakes and Tom Holland’s soulful performance, Brand New Day is a promising reset that portends Spidey will remain sticky on the big screen for years to come.

Amy Nicholson of The Los Angeles Times lauds director Destin Daniel Cretton, noting that he “seizes small moments to put his stamp on this installment” while noting that “he’s quietly made a humanist super-flick.” Stephanie Zacharek of Time manages to praise the film while also taking a swipe at the superhero genre, saying, “Brand New Day, at the very least, shows some awareness that actors, and not excessive, soul-killing special effects, are what will keep drawing us to the movies.” Meanwhile, Alissa Wilkinson of The New York Times shows the love to Tom Holland, who we voted as the best Spider-Man, by saying, “Nothing can erase the enjoyment of witnessing Holland’s performance, which remains winsome and wonderfully kinetic even if you know that’s got to be a computer-generated Spidey a lot of the time.” That’s not to say that the film was universally praised, as David Fear of Rolling Stone laments that “The movie keeps getting tangled in a complicated web of its own making, one that feels all too familiar after several decades of superhero cinema sucking up the cultural oxygen.”

Audience reactions have been similarly and expectedly enthusiastic. The film currently holds an astronomical 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.2/10 rating on IMDb, with one audience member calling it “hands down the most Spider-Man movie ever” and another saying it was “I loved every minute of this movie, not once did I think omg when is it going to be over, I’m ready to go to bed. Fully and completely captivating!!”
