Vita Vea Rumors: Top three potential trade destinations

Vita Vea was drafted by the Bucs with the 12th overall pick in the 2018 draft. Since then, he’s been one of the best nose tackles in football. Vea is a two-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion. He has 35 career sacks, 256 tackles and three fumble recoveries.

If your team is in need of one of the best run stuffers in the game, you might be in luck as on Monday it was reported that Vea has requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Vea is heading into the last year of his contract and it appears the two sides have yet to come to an agreement on a new deal. Vea, in turn, has requested a trade heading into his ninth season in the NFL.

So, that begs the question: if he is indeed moved, where could he land?

Shortly after the news broke, we got an interesting report from Ted Nguyen of The Athletic. According to his source, Vea wants a move to either the Raiders or a California team.

Players don’t always get to end up in their preferred destinations, but for arguments sake, let’s take a look at the four possible teams according to the report.

Raiders

Adam Butler is the best DT on the team at the moment. The former Patriot finished last season with 50 tackles and a sack. Vea only managed 34 total tackles, but he did have 4.5 sacks. Vea would be an immediate upgrade in the middle of that defensive line, and when you think of him pairing up with Maxx Crosby, that could be a formidable tandem for Las Vegas.

Chargers

This is another destination that makes sense. Dalvin Tomlinson was just acquired this offseason for L.A., but Tomlinson didn’t cost much and his upside is much lower than that of someone like Vea. The Chargers are always decent on the defensive line, and this would be a huge bolster to that.

49ers

This landing spot might make the most sense. Alfred Collins and Gracen Halton are banged up at the moment and there is a huge hole to be filled in the middle of the 49ers’ defensive line. Nick Bosa and Vita Vea would be a great combo to get after some of the terrific quarterbacks in this division.

Rams

Speaking of the NFC West, we have the Rams. This one doesn’t make a whole lot of sense as a landing spot. L.A. just traded a huge haul for Myles Garrett, and have solid defensive tackle options such as Kobie Turner and Poona Ford. Don’t expect the Rams to be involved in these sweepstakes.
