Houston reaches Sunday at 52-54 after sweeping Miami and taking the first two games at Rate Field. The Astros erased a five-run deficit Friday, then won 4-1 behind Hunter Brown’s seven shutout innings Saturday. That makes five consecutive victories and leaves Houston two games from the AL West lead. Chicago remains 54-49 and atop the AL Central, although three losses in four games have cooled its momentum. Spencer Arrighetti’s foot injury further thins Houston’s rotation, increasing the importance of Ronel Blanco’s workload-restricted second start. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Rangers vs. Mariners prediction, preview
Logan Gilbert gives Seattle the proper starter for ending a slide. He owns a 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 3.33 FIP, 129 strikeouts, and 25 walks across 120 innings. His last seven starts produced a 2.72 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 52 strikeouts, and eight walks across 46⅓ innings. Gilbert followed 7⅓ scoreless innings against Toronto by striking out 10 Giants across six innings Sunday. His 96.0 mph four-seamer carries 39.5% usage, followed by sliders, splitters, curves, cutters, and changeups. The splitter has held opponents to a .200 xwOBA and 22.0% hard-hit rate. However, Gilbert’s four-seamer has allowed a .366 xwOBA, .529 xSLG, and 52.1% hard contact. Texas can punish the occasional elevated heater, especially after seeing its first two starters poorly command that pitch.
Jacob deGrom owns a 3.76 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 3.33 FIP, 128 strikeouts, and a 30.2% strikeout rate. Those full-season numbers still describe an excellent pitcher, although recent innings have lost their old certainty. DeGrom carries a 5.34 ERA across five starts and a 6.45 ERA across his last four. Chicago reached him for seven hits and five runs across 4⅔ innings Monday. His 97.2 mph four-seamer receives 42.1% usage, while his 91.1 mph slider sits at 36.0%. The fastball has become his vulnerable pitch, allowing a .354 xwOBA when hitters catch it inside the strike zone. His slider remains the escape hatch, with sharp glove-side action and an expected mark near .250. Seattle owns a poor .701 OPS against right-handers, and deGrom’s slider directly attacks its expanding left-handed core.
Texas’ current lineup creates the separation. Wyatt Langford collected three hits, two doubles, two runs, and an RBI before fouling consecutive pitches off his foot Saturday. X-rays were negative, preserving a reasonable chance he returns Sunday. His last seven games produced a .414/.433/.828 line, three homers, seven RBIs, and eight runs. Joc Pederson owns 17 homers, a 130 wRC+, and a .244 isolated-power mark from the leadoff position. His 91.8 mph average exit velocity, 48.2% hard-hit rate, and 11.6% barrels give Gilbert’s fastball genuine risk. Pederson, Langford, and Ezequiel Duran combined for eight hits, four runs, and three RBIs Saturday. Seattle counters with Dominic Canzone’s .915 OPS since May 30 and his 92.3 mph average exit velocity. Josh Naylor has reached safely in 16 consecutive games, although his .098 isolated power and 4.9% barrel rate limit the damage. Julio Rodríguez carries a .734 OPS, while Cal Raleigh is batting .143 across his last ten games.
Seattle’s clearest advantage begins once deGrom exits. Its bullpen owns a 3.58 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and only 27 homers allowed this season. Texas relievers carry a 4.21 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 44 homers allowed. Andrés Muñoz, Matt Brash, and José Ferrer also enter rested because Seattle never created leverage Saturday. That advantage becomes dangerous if deGrom again leaves before completing five innings. Still, Texas protected its important relievers behind Nathan Eovaldi’s seven innings Saturday. Jacob Latz, Peyton Gray, and the Rangers’ preferred late-game options should all remain available. Seattle has scored five runs through 18 innings here, with four arriving during Friday’s scattered comeback attempts. Its lineup has produced only eight hits across the series outside Canzone, J.P. Crawford, and rookie Colt Emerson.
Mariners vs. Rangers pick, best bet
Globe Life Field’s roof should remove Sunday’s 98-degree Arlington heat from the scoring equation. That controlled setting favors deGrom’s velocity, breaking-ball command, and Texas’ sharper defense. Seattle is also playing a day game after a demoralizing night loss, with Raleigh carrying an obvious rest risk. Texas already lost Corey Seager and Josh Jung, while Langford’s bruised foot creates another lineup concern. Jake Burger has softened those absences with a homer and three RBIs Friday. Brandon Nimmo recently delivered four hits during Texas’ 10-0 win over Chicago. The Rangers have scored first in both series games and now own five opening-frame runs against Seattle. That early aggression supports another clean deGrom game script before either bullpen becomes decisive.
Texas -117 asks deGrom to rebound against baseball’s coldest important lineup, inside his preferred pitching environment. His recent ERA raises legitimate concern, but the strikeout and walk foundation remains intact. Seattle’s bullpen advantage loses influence if Gilbert allows another elevated fastball to Pederson, Langford, Burger, or Duran. The under at seven offers little forgiveness against two starters allowing increased airborne contact recently. Seattle’s moneyline requires its superior recent starter to overcome four consecutive losses and another quiet afternoon from the lineup. Texas owns the hotter offense, rested leverage relief, home field, and the deeper path to two or three decisive runs. The price remains reasonable through -120.
Best bet: Rangers moneyline at -117, playable through -120
Projected score: Rangers 4, Mariners 2
Best bet: Rangers (-115) vs. Mariners
