The WNBA season has hit its All-Star break, where the brightest stars will square off in this showcase event. Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon will serve as honorary captains as part of the league’s 30th anniversary, and Aces’ head coach Becky Hammon and Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve will coach their respective squads. The two captains were decided by the most public votes, which turned out to be Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark. You can check out the full All-Star teams below.
While the format is slightly different from a typical WNBA matchup, there are still plenty of ways to get involved through the markets on DraftKings Sportsbook. Here is a look at a few WNBA All-Star Game player props that have caught my eye.
Caitlin Clark 20+ Points (-113)
There are plenty of things that you can say about Caitlin Clark, but there is no disputing she is a box office star. People travel in flocks to see her play, and Clark pulls her weight in putting on a show. Expect this to especially be the case in this type of showcase setting.
On the season overall, the Indiana Fever star is averaging 21.0 points, 7.9 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game. Clark has scored 20+ points in 13 of her 23 games played. She has battled a back injury all season, but has largely looked like herself physically in recent games. The three-time All-Star finished with 27 points in the last game before the All-Star break and exploded for a season-high 45 points and 10 assists two games earlier.
It is difficult to project the type of workload that Clark or any of these players will see in this All-Star setting. But Clark finished with the second-most public votes and was unable to suit up for last year’s All-Star Game due to a groin injury. She is one of the headline names in this matchup and expect Clark to be eager to deliver. The former Rookie of the Year is willing to let it fly from deep and catch fire in a hurry. Count on her to receive the necessary time on the floor to clear this scoring total and for Clark to record 20+ points.
Olivia Miles 7+ Assists (+115)
Notre Dame product Olivia Miles earned her first WNBA All-Star Game appearance and has opened some major eyes with her play this year. Even with five-time All-Star Napheesa Collier being sidelined for all but one game, the Minnesota Lynx have cruised to a league-best 22-6 record. Miles deserves a ton of credit for this, averaging 19.3 points, six assists, and 4.7 rebounds across her first 26 career games.
Miles will be sharing the backcourt with Caitlin Clark, as well as plenty of other headline talent around the league. While there is no doubt about her talent, there are only so many shot attempts to go around. The rookie feels like a prime candidate to take a backseat in this matchup. Even while Miles has not blinked at the weight of the moment at any point during her collegiate and young professional career, this is a completely different setting.
Even still, Miles has earned a worthy place on the floor and will be asked to be one of the primary ball handlers. Expect her to lean on her playmaking skills and defer to some of the more experienced WNBA stars. Miles has tallied 7-plus assists in nine games this season and will have plenty of elite teammates to lean on. She is too poised and talented not to make her impact felt in this game, and it will likely come in the form of her exceptional playmaking.
A’ja Wilson to Win All-Star Game MVP (+700)
Las Vegas Aces’ star A’ja Wilson haș had an incredibly accomplished WNBA career already. The 29-year-old is a four-time MVP, an eight-time All-Star, a three-time champion, a two-time scoring champion, and a three-time Defensive Player of the Year. But there’s one accolade missing: an All-Star Game MVP.
If Wilson wants this award, she can win it. While there is plenty of conversation and debate regarding the face of the league or top overall player, Wilson continues to put her head down and produce. Across her first 24 games this season, she is averaging 26.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, and three assists per game. Standing 6-foot-4 with agile movements and impressive touch, there is no matchup for Wilson, even with this star-studded cast of teammates and opponents.
Even with her wildly impressive resume, it always feels Wilson does not get the proper national respect that her talent level commands. Expect the All-Star Game to be a chance for her to provide a reminder — and for Wilson to approach this game with the necessary seriousness. She finished with 38 points in her previous matchup and has scored 30-plus in four of her last seven games leading up to the break. All-Star Game MVP will largely come down to who wants it most, and I am taking the +700 flyer for Wilson to go out and get it.
