Motor City is the newest film from director Potsy Ponciroli. Ponciroli is best known for his 2021 film Old Henry, which got critical acclaim but did not reach mass audiences. This action film, starring Alan Ritchson, could be Ponciroli’s first film to break into the mainstream. Ritchson has become one of the best action stars in TV and film over the past few years, and always draws an audience.
This film is unique in its total lack of dialogue. There are only a handful of lines in the entire movie. Most of the film is just action sequences with a great soundtrack playing in the background. The legendary Jack White, a Detroit native, curated the soundtrack of the film.
Motor City features a love story between Ritchson’s character and a character portrayed by Shailene Woodley. It also features gangsters, a prison break and all the fight sequences you want from a Ritchson-centered film. The other stars of this movie are Ben Foster, Pablo Schreiber, Ben McKenzie and Lionel Boyce.

Based on the early reviews, Motor City is a solid 6/10 movie. IMDb, Metacritic and Letterboxd all have it almost exactly at that 6/10 rating. Rotten Tomatoes has it listed slightly higher at a 69% approval rating among those critics.
What the Ratings Say About Motor City
These ratings are probably what most people expected from a movie like this. The soundtrack, curated by Jack White, has gotten a lot of acclaim. Alan Ritchson always delivers as an action star, and some of the fight sequences are thrilling. However, the lack of dialogue, the soundtrack and the choreographed fight sequences make it come off more like a long music video than a film.
