Logan Webb, San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Angels ($9,700) — I’m not enamored with the pitching on this slate, so Webb it is. A ringing endorsement! The K-BB% is only 13.2% and the fastball only averages 92.5 mph, but the FIP is 3.54 while the launch angle is 7.0 degrees and the barrel rate is only 5.3%. As a result, only nine home runs have been allowed in 107 innings. At home, Webb has a 2.67 FIP compared to 4.38 on the road while only two home runs have been allowed. Finally, the matchup is a good one, as the Angels strikeout at the highest rate in MLB while being 25th in ISO and 20th in wRC+.

Dustin May, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds ($7,800) — It’s been such an up and down season for May. His first two starts ended in negative FPTS. He ran off three straight with double-digit FPTS after that, only to return to single-digit land in three of the next four starts. Then in late May and early June, May was on fire like his hair, putting up 30, 20.6, 26.5 and 46 FPTS. After thinking all was good, owners were yelling May Day, as he produced two more negative FPTS outings. He did bounce back with 22.1 FPTS but finished with single-digit FPTS in the two most recent outings. Whew. I need a cigarette, and I quit over a decade ago. So, why do I like May today? I kind of don’t because of the price and unpredictability, but compared to the other options on the slate, he looks pretty, pretty good. May is averaging 97 mph on the fastball and the 3.26 FIP is much lower than the 4.78 ERA. He’s only allowed seven home runs in 98 innings and is much better at home, posting a 2.58 FIP compared to 4.19 on the road. In addition, only one of the six home runs allowed have come at home. Cincinnati is fifth in ISO, but second in strikeouts and 29th in wRC+.

Bryce Eldridge, San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Angels ($3,900) — Eldridge has 10 home runs in 243 plate appearances. The walk rate is 12.8%, the strikeout rate is 25.9% and the ISO is .204. The average exit velocity is 92.6 mph with a 14.2 degree launch angle, 12.8% barrel rate and 73.8 mph bat speed. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 130 with a .201 ISO. Now he gets to face Grayson Rodriguez, who has a 5.84 FIP and 1% K-BB% against lefties. The average exit velocity allowed is 92.3 mph with a 10% barrel rate.

Miguel Rojas, Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets ($2,400) — Rojas gets most of his playing time against left-handed pitching. He’s slashing .330/.381/.511 with a 7.2% walk rate, 11.3% strikeout rate and .182 ISO against lefties. Sean Manaea has been getting pummeled by righties, posting a 5.29 FIP and 9.7% K-BB%.

Andrew Benintendi, Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros ($3,500) — Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti has a 4.97 FIP and 12.7% walk rate. He’s also allowed 12 home runs in 87 innings. Against lefties, the FIP is 5.92 with a 6.8% K-BB%. Eight of the 12 home runs have come off the bat of a lefty. Benintendi has a 113 wRC+ with a .202 ISO against right-handed pitching. All 10 of his home runs have come off a righty.

Tristan Peters, Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros ($2,900) — Yup, we stacking against Arrighetti. Peters has a 134 wRC+ and .188 ISO against right-handed pitching. All six of his home runs have come off a righty.
