Tyreek Hill played in just four games last season for the Dolphins. In Week 4 against the Jets, he suffered a devastating knee injury that required serious surgery. That unsurprisingly kept Hill out for the rest of the season. The real concern is that it has kept Hill out all offseason as well as he looks for a new team. Here is a look at whether or not Hill can be trusted as a fantasy football sleeper for the 2026-27 season.
Tyreek Hill Injury
In that Week 4 game against the Jets, Hill dislocated his knee and tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL. That is a severe surgery for any player, let alone a 32-year-old with as many miles on his legs as Hill has. Despite playing such an injury-prone position and, frankly, playing a very injury-prone style of wide receiver, Hill has been quite healthy throughout his career. Prior to last season, Hill had played at least 15 games in eight out of nine years of his career. Even the one season in which he did miss more time, he still played in 12 games.
Tyreek Hill has reportedly struggled with his recovery since getting surgery. The Dolphins decided to release Hill in February, realizing there would be no trade market for the 32-year-old coming off such a severe injury. It was thought that a homecoming to Kansas City would make the most sense. Hill knows the offense and could be used on a more limited basis as a gadget player for the Chiefs. However, the injury has left him in limbo.
Nobody seems to want to take a chance on Hill until there is more assurance around his health. That is why it was shocking to see Tyreek Hill post a video on Thursday of himself working out and saying there is still “no power” in his left leg. Hill isn’t even back to full strength to work out, which means he is nowhere near ready to play in an NFL game. The fact that he is at this stage in late July puts his NFL future in serious doubt.
Tyreek Hill Next Team
The Chiefs were always thought to be the logical next destination for Tyreek Hill, both for sentimental and practical reasons. Other top contenders in the AFC like the Bills and Ravens could also look to swoop in and steal Hill away from the Chiefs. Both of those teams could also use some more depth at wide receiver. Another under-the-radar contender to sign Hill could be the Commanders. If the Brandon Aiyuk signing/trade falls through, Hill could be another option for the Commanders to bring in. However, it seems like the Chiefs really are the most likely landing place for Hill if he plays this season.
Will Tyreek Hill Retire?
With the news that Tyreek Hill still can’t use his left leg, retirement has to start to creep into his mind. Hill has accomplished a tremendous amount in his career, and this could be the end of the road. It seems unlikely that he would be ready to start this season. Therefore, it’s hard to see a team signing him just to put him on injured reserve. There is a chance Hill keeps working his way back to full fitness, and then the Chiefs sign him as a depth piece heading into the late stages of the season. Hill could get in late with Kansas City and help on a playoff run since he already knows the offense so well. However, if Hill can’t play at all this season, it could be the end of the road for his NFL career.
Should Tyreek Hill Be an Option in Fantasy Football?
No. Tyreek Hill has no value in fantasy football this season. Until he is actually signed to an NFL roster, it would be a terrible choice to use a draft pick on him. Even then, it’s unclear when or if Hill will be able to play this season. If he ends up signing to a roster, he could be worth a stash on the IR until he is eventually ready to come back to the field. However, unless he specifically goes to Kansas City and makes it clear he will be ready to return by the midway point of the season, it’s hard to assign any value to Hill in fantasy football this season.
