Everything You Need to Know Before Cape Fear Episode 9
Let’s break down the latest plot developments during last week’s eighth episode, ‘Los Tiempos De Dios Son Perfectos:
- The episode begins with Max getting sent away in a police car, having been set up last week thanks to Anna’s ploy involving her estranged father.
- With Max sent away (for now) and Zach getting help, things finally seem to be settling down for the Bowdens. On a sunny day, Natalie decides to take a quick dip in the backyard pool. Upon swimming to the bottom, she stumbles upon a gruesome image: the decapitated head and limbs of Ray, who Cady killed during last week’s episode.
- Authorities at the house ask to see Toms gun. However, when retrieving the weapon, he notices that it’s recently been fired. Instead of framing himself (or Natalie), he gives investigators another gun. Max used the actual weapon to kill Ray in Cape Fear, slipping it back into Nat’s backpack when he dropped her off at home.
- Anna heads over to her father’s house. He’s in pain, having been bit by Max’s dog last week after planting drugs in his home. She encourages the old man to leave town, which he’s willing to do for a price. He demands $100,000 dollars, a cost for both his departure and discretion.
- Natalie (for some reason) is still talking to Max, who may or may not be her father. She calls the ex-convict, letting him know that her parents suspect him of murdering Ray. Cady responds with fake surprise, telling the teenager that he never left her sight during their road trip; how could he have brought a gun, let alone kill someone? What Natalie doesn’t realize is that she was drugged; Max pulled off the killing during her brief slumber. Still, Natalie isn’t fully buying it. She hangs up on Cady, refusing to believe her parents would kill a close friend.
- Natalie’s curiosity didn’t end there. She makes a trip to the local penitentiary to visit none other than Nevaeh. She begs for the help of Cady’s daughter, but it’s no use. Things get ugly between the two girls, culminating in Nevaeh telling Nat that she’s going to kill her whole family.
- Anna meets with Noa in an attempt to figure out what happened to Ray. Upon looking through her friend’s phone, she realizes why he was in Cape Fear: trying to find Max’s half-sister Crystal.
- The police aren’t fooled by Tom; they figure out that the gun he gave them was a fake. That leads to yet another tense standoff, raising some suspicion that the couple might have played a part in Ray’s death.
- Upon returning home, Tom looks through the pictures that Ray took of Cady’s houseboat. There, he sees a disturbing sight: a picture of Max kissing Anna. When approached, Anna tells Tom that she wasn’t interested, and Max was just trying to force himself onto her. However, Tom doesn’t believe her.
- Right as the two are arguing, the police knock on the front door. New evidence has arrived that afternoon that suggests Tom is responsible for Ray’s murder. He’s arrested in public and sent down to the station, in front of Anna and Natalie.
- The next day, when Anna is watching television, Max appears on the news. He’s saying that he was set up by the Bowdens, and has definitive proof: Anna’s father. He appears next to Cady, claiming that his own daughter isn’t a good person.
- Things have gone south between the Bowdens. When visiting her husband, Anna undergoes an interrogation of her own. Tom asks if Anna ever slept with Max, in addition to if Natalie is his daughter. Her answer? “I don’t know.”
- Finally, we get some resolution here. Anna tells Natalie that 17 years ago, she was an alcoholic that cheated on her then-husband Paul. She got drinks with Cady on one of those occasions, and there’s a chance the two slept together. She simply doesn’t remember whether or not that happened. Anna tells her daughter something troubling: Max isn’t going to stop until the Bowdens are dead.
- Back at Max’s house, Natalie tells Max that he used her. She implores him to tell the truth that her father didn’t kill Ray. To make her point even further, she brings a gun to Cady’s home. However, instead of trying to talk her into putting the weapon down, he encourages her to shoot him in the gut. Under immense pressure, Natalie complies. She pulls the trigger, sending herself to jail and Natalie to the hospital.
- While recovering, none other than Anna (claiming to be Crystal) shows up at Max’s bedside. She asks him to say that Anna shot him, pleading that she will do whatever he wants. However, this is exactly what Max wants: for Anna to feel her family being “ripped apart.”
