Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 7/22/26

Tampa Bay has spent two nights exposing every weakness Toronto hoped to hide. The Rays won 7-1 Monday, then buried the Blue Jays 12-2 behind 21 hits Tuesday. They now lead the season series 7-1 and have outscored Toronto 19-3 this week. Tampa Bay enters at 58-42, while Toronto sits 46-55 after losing six of seven. The Rays remain 4-6 across 10 games, yet their offense has carried elite recent production. They have hit .287/.339/.487 with 102 hits, 19 doubles, 16 homers, and 48 runs. That stretch also includes 13 steals and an .826 OPS, giving every inning several pressure points. Toronto owns 400 runs, a .242 average, .304 on-base percentage, and .379 slugging percentage. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Blue Jays vs. Rays prediction, preview

Toronto will list Braydon Fisher as the starter, although Spencer Miles will handle the important innings. Fisher owns a 3.65 ERA, 3.75 xERA, .300 xwOBA, 25.0% strikeouts, and 11.0% walks. His 88.3 mph contact and 39.7% hard-hit rate appear manageable. The trouble lives inside his 12.7% barrel rate and eight barrels per 100 plate appearances. That rate sits 5.1 points above average and creates immediate one-swing volatility. Fisher throws sliders and curves on almost 79% of pitches. His slider allows a .284 xwOBA with 30.8% whiffs. His curve has yielded a .353 xwOBA, .475 xSLG, and 51.6% hard contact. Yandy Díaz’s direct path and Jonathan Aranda’s left-handed lift make every hanging breaker dangerous.

Miles owns the game’s best complete pitching profile: 3.52 ERA, 3.22 xERA, and a .279 xwOBA. Opponents own a .236 xBA and .335 xSLG across 64 innings. His contact suppression includes 86.4 mph exit velocity, 33.7% hard contact, and 3.9% barrels. Only seven of 181 batted balls have become barrels. Miles carries a 23.4% strikeout rate, 7.3% walks, and a 16.1-point K-BB margin. His 96 mph sinker drives a 54.7% ground-ball rate and keeps average launch angle near six degrees. The slider has allowed a .227 xwOBA, while the curve sits at .292. Toronto stretched Miles to 60 pitches Friday, with his career high still 73. That ceiling leaves at least four innings for the bullpen, even when Miles performs well.

Griffin Jax gives Toronto the game’s clearest scoring opening. His 4.08 ERA stands beside a 5.31 xERA, .351 xwOBA, .274 xBA, and .461 xSLG. Jax has allowed 89.1 mph contact, 41.1% hard contact, 37.2% sweet spots, and 10.1% barrels. His starter conversion reduced sweeper usage from about 44% last season to 26%. Those missing sweepers became more four-seamers, sinkers, and changeups, widening Toronto’s damage window. His four-seamer owns a .387 xwOBA and .572 xSLG. The sinker carries a .377 xwOBA, while his lightly used cutter has yielded a .661 xwOBA. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. owns a .341 xwOBA despite a .305 wOBA, creating legitimate positive-regression potential. His 6.9% barrel rate and 43.8% hard contact still describe diminished power, however.

Rays vs. Blue Jays pick, best bet

ampa Bay’s top order can score through authority, patience, or defensive pressure. Junior Caminero owns a .393 wOBA, .376 xwOBA, 93.3 mph exit velocity, and 51.9% hard contact. His 13.8% barrel rate supports the power, while an 8.9-degree launch angle leaves additional ceiling. Díaz owns a .312/.388/.476 line, .361 xwOBA, 91.1 mph contact, and 47.8% hard contact. Aranda adds a .367 wOBA, .362 xwOBA, 91.2 mph contact, and 10.0% barrels. Chandler Simpson collected four hits Tuesday and has helped Tampa Bay steal 13 bases across 10 games. Toronto can answer late with Louis Varland, Tyler Rogers, and Jeff Hoffman. Their respective 1.42, 2.95, and 2.63 FIPs give Toronto a legitimate closing structure. The roof is expected open, though conditions should provide only a modest offensive adjustment.

Toronto’s late relief strength keeps Rays over 4.5 below the side and full-game total. Tampa Bay owns the superior offense, but Miles can suppress barrels before Toronto reaches its best relievers. Toronto receives the weaker primary pitcher and the game’s largest expected-stat regression signal. Jax’s fastball damage gives Guerrero, George Springer, Nathan Lukes, and Daulton Varsho enough early access. Fisher creates first-inning volatility, while Miles likely exits before completing a conventional starter’s workload. Over eight preserves a push across several plausible 5-3 outcomes. Rays -109 remains defensible, though Toronto’s pitching design narrows Tampa Bay’s early advantage. I project approximately 4.7 Tampa Bay runs and 4.2 Toronto runs.

Best bet: Over 8.0 runs at -112.

Projected score: Rays 5, Blue Jays 4.

Best bet: Blue Jays vs. Rays o8.0 total runs (-110)
