With that being said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye. Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Dodgers vs. Phillies NRFI (-110)
In this marquee National League clash, the Dodgers will send out their most underrated pitcher. First-time All-Star Justin Wrobleski has been a stabilizing force in this Los Angeles rotation. Through 100.1 innings of work (15 starts), the southpaw has recorded a 2.69 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 73 strikeouts (6.5 K/9). To boot, he’s been solid at the beginning of games (73.3% NRFI). This is an ideal matchup for the 26-year-old; Philadelphia has the sixth-lowest OPS against left-handed pitching (.685). When he last met the Phillies, on May 29th in LA, Wrobleski tossed seven innings of one-run ball. Keeping that in mind, the youngster should come out firing tonight.
As for the home team, it’ll be Zack Wheeler making his 16th start of the season. So far, so good for the veteran. He’s accounted for a 2.13 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 108 strikeouts (10.5 K/9). In addition, he’s allowed one combined run over his previous 13.0 innings of work. Los Angeles, one of baseball’s premier lineups, presents a notable challenge. However, when playing on the road, the Dodgers have posted a minuscule .215 first inning batting average. That’s not ideal when taking on an upper echelon ace such as Wheeler.
Orioles vs. Red Sox NRFI (-140)
The Orioles will send out arguably their top pitcher tonight in Kyle Bradish. This season, the right-hander has delivered a 3.61 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 106 strikeouts (8.9 K/9). He comes into this one on a heater, posting a 2.12 ERA during his last five appearances. Even more important for the sake of this bet, Bradish owns a sparkling 88.9% NRFI rate this season. In comparison, the Red Sox have struggled offensively at Fenway Park. Their 3.88 runs per game at home are the fifth-worst mark for any big league club. In addition, Boston has an American League-worst 22.22% YRFI rate.
On the other side, it’ll be Ranger Suarez toeing the slab this evening. It’ll be the 30-year-old’s first start in over two weeks, last taking the mound on July 5th. All things considered, it’s been a terrific debut in Beantown for the southpaw. Over 91.1 innings pitched, he’s put up a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 97 strikeouts (9.6 K/9). This is an ideal matchup for Suarez, especially for NRFI purposes. The Orioles might struggle in this spot; their .698 OPS vs. lefties is 11th-worst in baseball. In addition, Baltimore is responsible for the sport’s sixth-lowest YRFI rate as well (23.76%). Add it all up, and it’s difficult to envision the O’s coming out hot against an above-average arm.
UPDATE: Left-handed pitcher Eduardo Rivera (2.89 ERA) will start for Boston instead of Suarez.
