The Brewers and Pirates play the third game of their three-game series on Sunday, July 12.

Pittsburgh is a -120 moneyline favorite, while Milwaukee is +100 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under 7.5 runs.

Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Brewers vs. Pirates game.

Brewers vs. Pirates prediction, preview

We were robbed of an all-time pitching matchup between Jacob Misiorowski and Paul Skenes. Misiorowski is out due to arm fatigue, but Skenes will still start ahead of the All-Star break. The third year pro is a three-time All-Star and won the 2025 NL Cy Young award.

The Brewers were initially favored, but that changed after the team scratched Misiorowski from the start. Nonetheless, the game is projected to be a close matchup with Pittsburgh favored slightly at home. Milwaukee is leading the NL Central and is the second best team in the majors. The Pirates are fourth in the division and are hovering around the .500 mark. That said, Pittsburgh won the first two games of this series, both of which took place on Saturday, July 11 in a doubleheader. It’s exactly the type of momentum the team can use heading into the All-Star break.

Both teams have excellent offenses, but they’ve only shown up in one of two games. Game 1 featured the high-powered offenses, as Pittsburgh won 7-6, while Game 2 was low-scoring in a Pirates’ 3-2 victory. The Brewers and Pirates rank in the top five for runs scored and in the top 10 for batting average.

That could prove troublesome for the starters, but it’s unlikely that either pitcher has a disastrous outing. In the event one does, Milwaukee is equipped with a great bullpen that ranks fourth in ERA. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, ranks 22nd in bullpen ERA, so there isn’t much support behind Skenes.

Brewers vs. Pirates Pick, Best Bet

Even with Misiorowski out, it’s difficult to envision the Pirates sweeping the Brewers. Skenes has been great as usual this year, but he’s had some slip-ups along the way. Furthermore, the Pirates have won one of his last 10 starts this season.

Best Bet: Milwaukee Brewers ML (+100)
