Anytime Goalscorer Best Bets for England vs. Norway

Jude Bellingham, England (+215)

It’s hard to say that Harry Kane hasn’t been England’s star player at this tournament. With six goals scored at this tournament, he is in the thick of the Golden Boot race and has become England’s all-time leading goalscorer. However, just behind Kane on the list of England’s top performers is Jude Bellingham. Entering the tournament and even during the group stage, there were some doubts around where Bellingham was most effective in this team and whether he should be starting.

The Real Madrid midfielder really struggled in the group stage draw against Ghana and was on thin ice with England fans. However, he has arguably been England’s best player in two of its past three matches. Against Panama, Bellingham had a goal and an assist, leading the way to that victory. Against Mexico, he put on as good of a midfield performance as you will see at this World Cup. He scored two goals for England, played all 90 minutes and ran box-to-box the entire time. He was fantastic going forward and creating chances, while also tracking back and helping defend while England was down a man.

In this game against Norway, Bellingham is my favorite bet to score a goal for England. Kane has six goals, and Bellingham has four in this tournament. However, Kane is -120 to score a goal, and Bellingham is +215. I will take the value on Bellingham there. He seems to just have a knack for being in the right place at the right time to find the back of the net. Norway is vulnerable defensively, allowing at least one goal in every match of this World Cup so far. Bellingham should get into space and find a way to score a goal for his nation in this massive quarter-final match.

Erling Haaland, Norway (+110)

If possible, Erling Haaland has increased his star even more at this World Cup. He has been the best striker in the Premier League and one of the best goalscorers in Europe for several years at this point. However, finding this international success with the very likable Norway squad has brought him to even bigger audiences. Many American fans getting into the game for the first time at this World Cup are hopping on the Haaland bandwagon. It’s hard to blame them, as he has been excellent to watch at this tournament. He seems to always find a way to score, the definition of inevitable.

There has been some discussion around how England will try to stop Haaland. He will be facing a team of almost entirely Premier League players who have gone up against him many times. In the case of John Stones, Nico O’Reilly and Mark Guehi, they have been Haaland’s teammates at Manchester City. While the familiarity with Haaland could help in some ways, the problem is that nobody in the Premier League stops him from scoring either.

England has had its vulnerabilities at the back at times, giving up two goals each to Croatia and Mexico. The suspension of Jarrell Quansah and injuries to Reece James, John Stones, Mark Guehi and Declan Rice will not help in that capacity. Haaland always finds the back of the net. He has seven goals in four matches at this World Cup, scoring at least once in every match that he has played in. At plus-money, I’ll gladly back him to score here.
