There are a handful of aces taking the mound Friday, from Yankees southpaw Ryan Weathers to Red Sox star Sonny Gray and Twins righty Zebby Matthews. Can Weathers put a pair of messy outings behind him? Will Gray look to deal one last gem before the All-Star break? How will Matthews look back in Minnesota? Here is our full breakdown of where we think each starting pitcher will wind up in the strikeout column.
Best MLB Strikeout Prop Bets Today (July 10, 2026)
- Washington Nationals vs. New York Yankees: Yankees LHP Ryan Weathers 6+ strikeouts: Weathers has hit 6+ K in 10 of 17 starts so far this year, including 3 of his last 4, so his recent struggle to prevent runs has not stood in the way of his ability to generate punchouts.
- New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox: Red Sox RHP Sonny Gray 6+ strikeouts: Gray has tossed 6+ K in three straight and four of his last five outings, plus he is going against a Mets lineup that ranks in MLB’s bottom half when it comes to home strikeouts per game.
- Minnesota Twins vs. Los Angeles Angels: Twins RHP Zebby Matthews 5+ strikeouts: Matthews is 7-for-10 this season when it comes to tossing 5+ K, so going against MLB’s second-most strikeout prone lineup gives me even more reason to feel good about him hitting the mark in his fourth straight outing.
MLB Strikeout Prop Bets Breakdown
Ryan Weathers 6+ K (+112), Washington Nationals vs. New York Yankees
On the whole this season, Weathers has tossed at least six strikeouts in 10 of his 17 starts. When he has gone at least 4.0 innings deep, his mark is 10-for-15. Weathers has reach six punchouts in three of his last four outings, as well. Even though the 26-year-old has a 6.17 ERA since May 30, he has still gone for six-plus strikeouts in four of his last seven appearances. Weathers’ ranks in the 77th percentile in K% and 65th percentile in Whiff %, per Baseball Savant. When it comes to his matchup, the Nationals’ strikeout rate is 3.1% higher against lefties than it is against righties, which works in the southpaw Weathers’ favor.
Sonny Gray 6+ K (-125), New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox
After not recording six or more strikeouts in any of his first six starts in a Red Sox uniform, Gray is 7-for-10 since. He has gone for at least seven strikeouts in three straight, as well as four of his last five. His stuff has been fooling hitters pretty badly, considering Baseball Savant has his 33.8% Chase % in the 81st percentile across MLB. Gray also got passed over for an All-Star selection last week, which he immediately followed up with seven strikeouts in 6.0 one-run frames. The Mets rank No. 12 in strikeouts per game, but they drop to No. 18 in home strikeouts per game. And for what it’s worth, Gray notched six strikeouts in each of his last five starts against the Mets. The only time he had fewer against New York was when he struck out five back in 2017.
Zebby Matthews 5+ K (-211), Minnesota Twins vs. Los Angeles Angels
Matthews has recorded at least five strikeouts in seven of 10 starts since joining the Twins’ rotation, including each of his last three – against some stiff competition in the Dodgers, Astros and Yankees, no less. He had a stretch of three straight starts failing to reach that mark to open June, but he hasn’t missed on either end of that downturn. And in two of those three failures, the righty still wound up with a respectable four strikeouts. Matthews has had a pretty consistent workload all year long, too, facing between 20 and 28 batters in all 10 of his starts. Add to that the fact that the Angels average the second-most strikeouts per game in MLB and I feel great about him finishing Friday with at least five. Los Angeles is also averaging 15.0 strikeouts per game over their last three. The over/under line suggests he could go for six, but he has only done so once in his last six starts, so I’ll err on the side of caution there.
