Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs prediction, pick for MLB on Friday 7/10/26

Chicago brings the better season into Great American Ball Park, but this is a run-shape game before it is a side. The Cubs are 52-41, have won seven of their last 10, and already swept Cincinnati in four games at Wrigley. The Reds are 42-50 and just wasted 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball from Brady Singer in a 1-0 loss to Philadelphia. That creates a sharp home reset. Cincinnati gets a lefty matchup in its own park, Chicago gets Greene in his second MLB start after elbow surgery, and both bullpens bring enough late-inning discomfort to keep the moneyline thin. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Reds vs. Cubs prediction, preview

Imanaga has enough command to beat this lineup for stretches, with a 5-7 record, 4.28 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 100 strikeouts, and only 26 walks across 103 innings. The problem is his contact profile in this park. He has allowed 21 HR, carries a 10.5% barrel rate, and lives off a four-seam/splitter mix that gets punished when either pitch leaks into lift zones. His May line ballooned to a 5.80 ERA with 10 HR allowed, and June still brought seven HR over 28 1/3 innings. Greene’s long-term file is better than his current line, but the first MLB start back was ugly: eight runs, four walks, seven strikeouts, and a 21.60 ERA. That leaves both starters with obvious talent and obvious scoring windows.

Cincinnati’s lineup gives the Imanaga fade enough power and platoon pressure. De La Cruz leads off with a .270/.345/.481 line, 14 HR, 15 doubles, 15.3% barrels, 53.1% hard-hit contact, 94.5 EV, and a .478 xSLG. Stewart follows with 19 HR, 21 doubles, 14.8% barrels, and a .469 xSLG, giving the Reds two immediate damage paths before Imanaga reaches the middle of the order. Steer, Suárez, Stephenson, Marte, Arroyo, and Hayes stack right-handed or switch-hit looks behind them. Hayes returns from a back injury after going 7-for-12 with a homer in rehab, while McLain hits the IL with a calf strain. Cincinnati’s .227/.309/.389 team slash is rough, but the 113 HR, 206 barrels, 9.6% barrel rate, and .400 xSLG say the contact is louder than the record.

Chicago’s offense can make Greene’s return uncomfortable from the first inning. Crow-Armstrong is the headliner at .296/.387/.543 with 21 HR, 15 doubles, four triples, 27 barrels, 49.2% hard-hit contact, .484 xSLG, and .367 xwOBA. Suzuki staying in the cleanup spot after leaving Thursday with cramps keeps the Cubs’ best right-handed damage lane intact. Busch gives the lineup a patient left-handed bridge, Happ and Conforto bring switch/left-handed lift, and Swanson’s lower-order power keeps Greene from relaxing late in the order. The Cubs’ team profile backs up the depth: 118 HR, 181 barrels, a .399 xSLG, and a .325 xwOBA.

Cubs vs. Reds pick, best bet

The counter is Greene’s strikeout ceiling and Imanaga’s WHIP. Greene can still dominate if the fastball lands and the slider finishes. Imanaga can still bury the splitter and make Cincinnati chase after that ugly Luzardo game. Those concerns make the side uncomfortable, not the total. Greene is still working through post-surgery command in a hitter’s park, while Imanaga’s barrel and homer file plays poorly against Cincinnati’s right-handed volume. The news also leans volatile. Suzuki is in, Hayes is back, McLain is out, and Palencia remains on the IL for a Cubs bullpen that has been patched together late. Cincinnati’s bullpen has improved over the last week, but the season-long structure remains shaky behind Greene’s uncertain length.

Cincinnati is warm and humid, with thunderstorms around 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., 81 degrees near first pitch, clouds through the middle innings, and another storm window later. A clean start gives elevated contact more carry at Great American Ball Park. A delay or stop-start rhythm can pull both teams toward vulnerable relief innings earlier than planned. Cubs ML asks for too much trust in Imanaga’s fly-ball profile here, while Reds ML asks for Greene command and bullpen stability. Cubs TT over 4.5 is live but too expensive, and Reds TT over 4.5 is the best pivot if the total climbs. The blended play is stronger.

Best bet: Over 9.5.

Projected score: Cubs 6, Reds 5.

Best bet: Reds vs. Cubs o9.5 total runs (+100)
