The Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates have entered a rain delay during Thursday’s series finale at PNC Park.
Atlanta led Pittsburgh, 6-4, when the game was halted in the fifth inning. The Pirates were batting in the bottom half, with the game already carrying plenty of offense before weather interrupted the afternoon window.
The Braves jumped in front immediately when Matt Olson hit his 25th home run of the season in the first inning. Atlanta added two more in the third on an Ozzie Albies RBI double and a Mauricio Dubón RBI infield single, building a 3-0 lead before Pittsburgh answered against Bryce Elder.
Bryan Reynolds and Esmerlyn Valdez went back-to-back with solo shots in the third inning to cut Atlanta’s lead to 3-2. The Braves stretched it back out in the fourth, with Jim Jarvis hitting his first career home run, a two-run shot to right field. Drake Baldwin later added an RBI single to make it 6-2.
Pittsburgh kept the game tight in the bottom of the fourth when Jake Mangum hit a two-run homer to right field, scoring Jared Triolo and trimming the Braves’ lead to 6-4.
