Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago Cubs prediction, pick for MLB on Wednesday 7/08/26

Chicago enters Camden Yards with the cleaner pulse and the better price. The Cubs are 51-40, sitting in playoff position, and have won seven of nine. Baltimore is 42-50, buried in the AL East, and still chasing traction before the deadline picture hardens. The opener gave this matchup a sharp tonal split. Chicago won 5-2 behind six shutout innings from Matthew Boyd and two-hit games from Pete Crow-Armstrong, Alex Bregman, Miguel Amaya, and Dansby Swanson. Baltimore finished without an extra-base hit, went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, and needed Adley Rutschman’s seventh-inning single for both runs. Colin Rea and Dean Kremer give the middle game a volatile shape, with one starter carrying better surface numbers and the other inviting traffic almost every inning. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago Cubs.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Orioles vs. Cubs prediction, preview

Kremer gives Baltimore the cleaner starting-pitching profile. He enters with a 3.18 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 20 strikeouts, 30.8% K rate, and 4.6% walk rate. His splitter-heavy redesign has become the foundation, with the pitch at 39.4% usage. Hitters have managed a .074 AVG, .074 SLG, .110 wOBA, and 45.1% whiff rate against it. That pitch can steal early-count leverage and flatten Chicago’s left-handed lift. The risk sits underneath the surface. Kremer has allowed a .461 xSLG, .426 xwOBAcon, 35.7% fly-ball rate, and 11.9% barrels. His four-seamer has been hammered for a .333 AVG, 1.133 SLG, .600 wOBA, and .872 xSLG. Rea’s side is looser. He has a 4.74 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 5.49 xERA, .273 xBA, .474 xSLG, .357 xwOBA, 41.6% hard-hit, 10.8% barrels, and only a 17.2% K rate.

Chicago’s lineup is built to test that Kremer tension immediately. Crow-Armstrong leads the game with the best blend of current production and pressure. He has 100 hits, 57 runs, 14 doubles, four triples, 19 HR, 50 RBI, 23 steals, and a .293/.383/.525 slash. The contact profile backs the star turn: 90.4 mph EV, 49.6% hard-hit, 36.9% sweet spot, 10.7% barrels, .482 xSLG, and 29.4 ft/s sprint speed. Bregman gives the order a contact hinge behind him. Busch adds left-handed patience and lift with 62 walks, 14 doubles, 11 HR, and a .367 OBP. Suzuki brings 13 HR, 42 RBI, and right-handed damage against mistakes. Happ has 17 HR, 47 walks, and a .759 OPS, while Swanson adds 16 HR, 58 RBI, 10 steals, and lower-order stress. Over their last 10 games against righties, the Cubs have hit .255/.343/.432 with a .775 OPS, 10 HR, 22 extra-base hits, 40 RBI, 30 walks, and 105 total bases.

Baltimore’s counter is legitimate because Rea rarely owns an inning cleanly. His four-seamer sits at 41.9% usage, and hitters have tagged it for a .324 AVG, .507 SLG, .395 wOBA, .506 xSLG, and 44.7% hard-hit rate. The Orioles can attack that pitch with Gunnar Henderson’s left-handed lift, Taylor Ward’s contact, Rutschman’s switch-hit traffic, Pete Alonso’s mistake power, and Samuel Basallo’s barrel profile. Alonso is the central problem, with 19 HR, 60 RBI, 16 doubles, 94.1 mph EV, 54.3% hard-hit, and 12.1% barrels. Basallo adds 14 HR, 42 RBI, a .465 SLG, 91.3 mph EV, 45.3% hard-hit, and 12.2% barrels. Rutschman has 18 doubles, eight HR, 47 RBI, and a .778 OPS, and he drove in both Baltimore runs Tuesday. The pushback comes from recent form. Baltimore’s last 10 games against righties show a .199/.317/.319 slash, .636 OPS, three HR, 13 extra-base hits, and 49 strikeouts.

Cubs vs. Orioles pick, best bet

The bullpen and weather pieces keep the full-game side lively. Baltimore’s relief group has a 4.27 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 40 HR allowed, 116 walks, and 314 strikeouts. Chicago’s bullpen has a 4.03 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 55 HR allowed, 131 walks, and 315 strikeouts. Neither group gives this game a clean late-inning lid. Chicago’s opener did help its bullpen alignment, because Boyd covered six innings before Ryan Rolison, Jacob Webb, and Trent Thornton finished the win. Baltimore still has injury stress across the pitching staff, with key relief and rotation pieces unavailable. Camden Yards should play warm early, around 82 degrees near 6 p.m. and 80 degrees near first pitch. A later storm signal adds volatility after the early scoring window. That timing favors first-five scoring angles over a full-game over needing every inning.

The best bet is Cubs ML +105, playable to -105. Kremer has the starter edge, and that edge is already priced into Baltimore’s home-favorite number. Chicago has the better recent offense, deeper lineup, cleaner series entry, and stronger late-game path at plus money. The Cubs can win through Crow-Armstrong pressure, fastball damage against Kremer, lineup length, and Baltimore’s bullpen bridge. The Orioles can absolutely score early against Rea, which keeps both teams 2+ runs F5 +100 live as the best derivative. F5 over 5.5 -120 and Cubs team total over 4.5 also fit the game shape. The side price remains the cleanest stand.

Best bet: Cubs ML +105.

Projected score: Cubs 6, Orioles 5.

Best bet: Cubs (+105) vs. Orioles
