Today is not May 5. It is, in fact, July 7. Yet rain cares not for plans, and that’s why the Brewers and the Cardinals will be playing a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Game 1 gets going at 2:15 p.m. ET in St. Louis.
Let’s preview the first half of this divisional clash and make a couple picks on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Brewers vs. Cardinals prediction, preview
I think it would be fair to say that the pitching matchup this afternoon projects to be a little lopsided.
For the Brewers, Jacob Misiorowski will take the ball, fresh off giving up a season-high five runs to the Reds his last time out. That said, Misiorowski still leads all qualified pitchers in ERA (1.47), FIP (1.97), xERA (2.09) and strikeout rate (39.3%). He’s had almost twice as many quality starts in 2026 (11) as he’s surrendered barrels (6). Every single stat is mind-blowing and there’s no reason to assume that Misiorowski won’t enjoy a bounce-back performance against the Cardinals. The last time the RHP faced St. Louis on May 25, Misiorowski allowed only two hits and struck out 12 across seven innings. That’s pretty much par for the course for the 24-year-old.
For the Cardinals, Hunter Dobbins has be re-called to the majors as the club’s 27th man, yet the team has announced that the right-hander will start Game 2 of this doubleheader. For Game 1, Matt Svanson will open, while one would have to assume that Michael McGreevy, whose spot in the rotation is lined up for today, would be involved in some capacity. McGreevy is having a truly odd campaign, as his 3.12 ERA suggests dominance, but his 5.60 xERA suggests an incredible amount of luck. I’d have to say that I side with the latter. It’s not just a .252 BABIP or an unstable 83.1% strand rate, it’s a non-existent strikeout rate (15.9%) and a fourth percentile opponent expected batting average (.292). The implosion is coming.
This is also just a brutal matchup for whoever ends up toeing the rubber for St. Louis, as Milwaukee’s bats are also red-hot. Over the past 30 days, the Brewers rank second in the league in expected wOBA (.335), seventh in batting average (.268) and eighth in wRC (114). It’s been former first-round pick Garrett Mitchell that’s led the charge for Milwaukee in this span, slashing .337/.387/.640 with a 178 wRC+ in 93 plate appearances. Mitchell’s now played in parts of five seasons with the Brewers, but he’s finally healthy and producing like the franchise hoped he would back in 2020.
Brewers vs. Cardinals pick, best bet
Best Bet: Jacob Misiorowski 8+ Strikeouts (-127)
The Cardinals have one of the lowest strikeout rates in the league (20.1%), but that doesn’t matter. Misiorowski is matchup-proof, as he proved back on May 25 when he struck out 12 St. Louis hitters. Heck, Misiorowski’s cleared this prop in 12 of his last 13 starts. I have no idea why this total is so low, but take advantage.
