Fery is one of the best underdog stories in tennis this year, entering Wimbledon as a wildcard and the No. 114 player in the world. He has spent most of his season playing on the Challenger Tour, but has played in the qualifiers at all three majors so far. Incredibly, he started the year by making it through the qualifiers and pulling off a massive upset over Cobolli in the first round of the Australian Open. It has been incredible to see Fery make it this far in his local tournament. Not only does he represent the United Kingdom, but he grew up going to school in Wimbledon itself. It would have been Fery’s dream to make a run like this on the iconic Wimbledon grass, and he is currently living that dream. It now comes down to whether or not he can pull off a second major upset over Cobolli.

It has been an incredible 2026 for Cobolli so far, finishing at No. 22 in the 2025 year-end ATP rankings. He was a promising young player, but seemed to have a ceiling at the bigger tournaments. Cobolli has broken through that ceiling in 2026. This year, he has four wins over top-10 players, an ATP Mexican Open title, and he made his first career major final at Roland-Garros. Cobolli is following that incredible major run with another deep run here at Wimbledon. He is now favored to get through to the semi-finals and has a real chance to make another final. Cobolli has proved he can get it done on every surface, with ATP titles on hard and clay, as well as back-to-back trips to the Wimbledon quarter-finals. He should be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

My best bet for this match is for Fery to win under 18.5 games against Cobolli. Unfortunately, this is where I have Fery’s incredible story coming to a close. While this has been an incredible run to the Wimbledon quarter-finals, he has yet to play anyone near Cobolli’s quality. En route to this quarter-final, Fery has beaten the No. 105, No. 140, No. 37 and No. 146 players in the world. Of course, in Grigor Dimitrov’s case, he is better than his ranking of No. 146 in the world. However, he is still an aging player whose best days are way behind him. Fery has gotten an incredibly fortunate draw to play three players ranked outside the top 100.
Now, Fery has to face the No. 8 player in the live ATP rankings. The fair counterargument is that Fery already beat Cobolli earlier this year in their first career meeting. However, the form that Cobolli has found over the last several months makes him a completely different player than he was in January. Cobolli won a title in Mexico, went on some deep runs during the clay season, and then made his first Grand Slam final at Roland-Garros. Meanwhile, Arthur Fery had only won two main draw matches at a major prior to this tournament. Cobolli should take care of him in three or four sets and keep Fery under this total games-won number.
