USA vs. Belgium First Goalscorer Prediction
Romelu Lukaku has been a dominant force for Belgium in this tournament, but he is only effective in shorter bursts due to age and lack of fitness. The Belgians boast multiple capable offensive playmakers, but they haven’t worked cohesively as a team recently and the Americans’ back line is quite strong. Jeremy Doku is one of the world’s elite 1-on-1 talents, but that prowess hasn’t translated to production so far in the World Cup. Kevin De Bruyne is a fantastic playmaker, but isn’t a consistent threat to find the back of the net.
That leaves us with Christian Pulisic. Team USA’s superstar has only played 165 minutes in this World Cup as he battles through a calf injury, but when he’s on the pitch, he’s extremely dangerous. Pulisic isn’t just a capable 1-on-1 producer from an American standard, he’s a consistent producer in Serie A, one of Europe’s top leagues. The winger is one of the two engines of the United States’ offense, and he’ll need to be significantly more aggressive looking to generate his own shot.
I expect the United States to come out of the gates firing in this game, and Pulisic will put them on the score sheet first.
