On Monday night, the Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants are set to square off in the late window. The former is in a skid at the moment while the latter has never really found their form this year, but there’s still baseball to watch and bets to be placed in this one. First pitch is set for 9:45 p.m. ET.
Here’s a betting prediction and pick for this Blue Jays vs. Giants matchup courtesy of MLB odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Blue Jays vs. Giants prediction, preview
Toronto Blue Jays
The Jays looked competitive in the AL East for a time, but they’ve now hit another rough patch amidst a 3-7 stretch and enter tonight off back-to-back losses. They’re 42-48 on the campaign and have a -42 run differential, which is far from what you want to see from a team with postseason hopes. Toronto averages just 3.96 runs a game and has a .688 OPS that falls 27th in baseball. The club slashes .244/.306/.382 and is near the bottom of the MLB in ISO at .139 as well. The 88 home runs are good for 24th. Even despite a low 20.0% K%, a 7.4% BB% keeps the OBP down and means fewer baserunners overall. Clearly, this offense needs some help. The Blue Jays do face a RHP tonight, which is welcome news with an improved line of .253/.310/.391 for a .701 OPS in the split.
RHP Kevin Gausman takes the mound with a 4-7 record in 18 appearances. He brings a 4.19 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP and 100 strikeouts across 101.0 IP into tonight. The Toronto bullpen backing him is eighth in ERA at 3.76 with a 1.29 WHIP and 14.0% K-BB%.
San Francisco Giants
The Giants’ season feels like it’s all but over at 37-52, having gone 4-6 over their last 10 contests as well. The full sample includes a run differential of -66 as well, which is third worst of any team in the MLB. With 4.09 runs per game, they’re not a high-scoring unit, but the OPS of .730 does rank 13th among all clubs. That comes via a slash line of .256/.308/.422, with the low OBP the main thing holding them back. San Francisco also has a .166 ISO that sits ninth and 99 homers, good for 20th. Even a 20.7% K% is quite good, but the 6.4% BB% is the worst number across the entire MLB and has been one of the biggest reasons they haven’t been able to overcome poor pitching with offense.
RHP Landen Roupp gets his 18th start this year after going 5-8. His ERA is 4.55 with a 1.37 WHIP and 99 strikeouts across 89.0 IP. The Giants’ bullpen is 23rd in ERA at 4.54 with a 1.44 WHIP and a paltry 8.1% K-BB%.
Blue Jays vs. Giants pick, best bet
DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Blue Jays both teams at an identical -110 odds to win on the Moneyline tonight. The run line is -1.5 towards the Jays with the run total set at 7.5.
Best Bet: TOR Blue Jays ML (-110)
We get toss-up odds this evening, but I’m going with the Blue Jays in this one. Yes, their offense has needed some help since the bats are way inconsistent on a night-to-night basis. However, they do get the better of their splits against the right-handed Roupp, who has been pretty terrible over the last month. He threw to the tune of a 7.14 ERA across six June starts with a 1.76 WHIP, 23 earned runs and 18 walks in this span. To top it off, he gave up just three homers, so it’s not like he got shelled, either. Given his recent form, I think Toronto should be able to get enough offense going off him even despite the lack of power, plus the visitors have the bullpen advantage as well.
