St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers prediction, pick for MLB on Monday 7/06/26

Milwaukee opens this NL Central series at 55-33, with the league’s best run-prevention profile and a 26-15 road record. St. Louis enters 47-40, still dangerous at Busch Stadium and chasing urgently from third place. This is also a strange five-game, four-day series, with Tuesday’s doubleheader created by a May rainout. That makes Monday’s opener matter beyond one box score. Bullpen planning, rotation stress, and late-inning trust all carry extra weight. The Cardinals have home urgency and louder home-run volume. The Brewers have the better staff, better road shape, deeper pressure offense, and cleaner full-game foundation. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Cardinals vs. Brewers prediction, preview

Shane Drohan gets the cleaner starter card. He enters 3-2 with a 3.12 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and a confirmed matchup against Dustin May. His contact profile supports the surface: 87.7 mph average exit velocity, 36.2% hard-hit rate, .296 wOBA, .285 expected wOBA, and 8.7% barrel rate allowed. He also owns a 24.5% strikeout rate and 7.5% walk rate. May brings more volatility. He enters 5-6 with a 4.80 ERA and 78 strikeouts, but his batted-ball profile is louder. Hitters have produced a 90.0 mph average exit velocity, 46.5% hard-hit rate, .313 wOBA, .305 expected wOBA, and 7.1% barrel rate against him.

May’s recent month makes the handicap trickier. He had a dominant pocket with 15 scoreless innings across wins over the Mets and Padres, including seven no-hit innings against Milwaukee. Then the command cracked. Kansas City and Atlanta combined to hit him for 11 runs, 11 hits, and three walks across 2.2 innings. May also left Thursday’s Braves start after taking a comebacker off his right ankle. X-rays were negative, and St. Louis avoided the injured list scare. He still returns on short rest after a lower-half interruption. That gives Milwaukee’s traffic offense several ways to pressure him without requiring a pure slugfest.

Milwaukee’s lineup fits the betting shape. The Brewers have scored 449 runs with a .735 OPS, 84 steals, and enough left-handed traffic to test May’s command. Jackson Chourio supplies the loudest damage profile: 92.3 mph average exit velocity, 46.7% hard-hit rate, .377 wOBA, .338 expected wOBA, and 14.6% barrel rate. Garrett Mitchell is the hottest sustainable bat on the board. He went 10-for-23 last week with two homers, three doubles, a triple, five RBI, and two walks. His season card backs the heater: 93.2 mph average exit velocity, 51.7% hard-hit rate, .362 wOBA, .360 expected wOBA, and 15.4% barrel rate. William Contreras adds balance with a .340 wOBA and .346 expected wOBA.

St. Louis has enough right-handed damage to keep this from feeling simple. Jordan Walker is the central threat, with 20 homers and 67 RBI entering the series context. His contact profile is elite: 93.9 mph average exit velocity, 51.3% hard-hit rate, .374 wOBA, .363 expected wOBA, and a barrel rate near 14%. He also drove in nine runs last week while continuing an All-Star-level breakout. Alec Burleson gives the Cardinals a second sturdy bat, carrying 91.6 mph average exit velocity, 48.2% hard-hit rate, .353 wOBA, .383 expected wOBA, and 10.8% barrel rate. Wetherholt and Herrera can build early traffic before Drohan reaches Walker.

Brewers vs. Cardinals pick, best bet

The full-game edge still leans Milwaukee because of pitching depth and late pressure. The Brewers own a 3.35 team ERA, while the Cardinals sit at 4.14 and rank 28th in strikeouts. That lower-strikeout staff profile matters against Milwaukee’s contact, speed, and pressure game. Woodruff’s return to the injured list adds series-level concern, but Drohan is already confirmed and Drew Rom is back in the bullpen mix. Busch Stadium also trims the total case. St. Louis is around 82 degrees near first pitch, cooling into the upper 70s, with a playable window after afternoon storm risk. That supports Brewers moneyline over an aggressive team total.

The Brewers team total over 4.5 at +114 has upside if May’s ankle or command wobbles early. The under 8 fits the park and weather, though May’s volatility creates stress. Brewers F5 moneyline asks Drohan to navigate Walker and Burleson before Milwaukee’s bullpen edge fully appears. The moneyline captures the better complete team at a fair price. Milwaukee has the stronger staff, more stable recent bullpen, hotter sustainable contact, and better run-creation profile. St. Louis has enough damage to make it tight, but the Brewers deserve the slight edge.

Best bet: Brewers ML (-111), playable to -120.

Projected score: Brewers 4, Cardinals 3.

Best bet: Brewers (-110) vs. Cardinals
