After a great finish at the John Deere Classic on Sunday, the PGA TOUR will head across the pond for two weeks in the United Kingdom. Before the final major of the season next week at Royal Birkdale, this week’s Genesis Scottish Open will be a great tune-up for players from both the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour looking to make a charge at The Open Championship next week.
This will be the fifth year that the event is officially a co-sanctioned event by the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour. The unique collaboration results in a very strong field with 75 players from the PGA TOUR, 75 players from the DP World TOUR, along with some additional spots to top players from the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA), in a nod to Genesis’ Korean heritage.
The Renaissance Club has hosted this event each year since 2019, and the design by Tom Doak has become one of the top links courses in Scotland. The course is in the East Lothian region of Scotland, in North Berwick, Scotland, and it announced earlier this year that it will host the event through 2030.
Since the event arrived at The Renaissance Club, the winners have been some of the top golfers in the world. Rory McIlroy won in 2023 by one stroke over Scotland’s own Robert MacIntyre, who bounced back and won his own national open the following year in 2024. Last year, Chris Gotterup claimed his second career PGA TOUR victory by two strokes over Rory and Marco Penge. Gotterup comes into his title defense this year after winning three more times on the PGA TOUR this season. He won the season-opening Sony Open in Hawaii and defeated Hideki Matsuyama in a playoff in Phoenix before storming back on Sunday at the John Deere Classic to win last week.
This year, the Scottish Open will award a $9 million total purse, with $1.62 million going to the winner.
