Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto Blue Jays prediction, pick for MLB on Friday 7/03/26

The Blue Jays open this three-game set in Seattle with a sharper first-five profile than full-game profile. Toronto enters 41-46 after a needed Canada Day exhale against the Mets. Seattle is 45-43, tied atop the AL West, and just swept the Angels. Still, Thursday’s 1-0 win came with one run on a bases-loaded walk and two center-field injuries. Julio RodrĂguez is now out of the lineup, while Victor Robles returns after taking 97.9 mph off the wrist/forearm. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Mariners vs. Blue Jays prediction, preview

Cease gives Toronto the cleaner run-prevention shape through five innings. He enters 4-4 with a 3.02 ERA, 128 strikeouts, 36.7% K rate, 11.5% walk rate, and 2.36 FIP. Castillo counters at 3-6 with a 4.93 ERA, 73 strikeouts, 21.5% K rate, 7.7% walk rate, and 3.94 FIP. Cease has allowed 86.2 mph average exit velocity, 34.3% hard contact, and 4.5% barrels. Castillo has allowed 90.3 mph average exit velocity, 43.2% hard contact, and 9.8% barrels.

The pitch fit pushes the early edge toward Toronto. Cease can work four-seamers above the zone, bury sliders, and use the changeup against Seattle’s left-handed pockets. The Mariners can stack J.P. Crawford, Dominic Canzone, Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor, Luke Raley, Cole Young, and Colt Emerson from the left side. Raleigh and Naylor still bring one-swing danger, while Canzone owns the best lineup-slot leverage behind Crawford and Randy Arozarena. Cease’s only true leak is command after a 10-strikeout, five-walk start against Texas.

Toronto’s lineup has enough early pressure against Castillo’s 2026 contact card. Nathan Lukes leads off with a .343/.381/.489 slash against right-handed pitching. Kazuma Okamoto gives the Jays their cleanest damage profile, with 19 HR, 54 RBI, a .224 ISO, and a June surge featuring seven HR and a .913 OPS. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s power dip keeps this from becoming a full lineup coronation, but Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement add contact insulation. Daulton Varsho, Yohendrick Piñango, Sean Keys, and Andrés Giménez stretch the left-handed pressure deeper into Castillo’s second trip.

Blue Jays vs. Mariners pick, best bet

Seattle’s counter lives in the bullpen and the park. The Mariners’ relief group ranks fourth in ERA at 3.54, with Andrés Muñoz, Eduard Bazardo, Gabe Speier, and Carlos Vargas capable of shrinking the late innings. Toronto’s bullpen ranks seventh at 3.76, though Louis Varland, Tyler Rogers, and Jeff Hoffman still give John Schneider leverage answers. The middle bridge gets tougher if Cease burns pitches early, especially with Patrick Corbin and Spencer Miles carrying recent workload. Rodríguez’s absence trims Seattle’s athleticism, defense, and top-end offensive pressure, while Robles returns after taking 97.9 mph off the wrist/forearm.

The setting also points toward an early-window bet. Seattle should sit around 70 degrees at first pitch before sliding into the mid-60s, with clouds and no cheap carry boost. Paul Clemons behind the plate adds walk volatility, so Cease still has to earn the edge with strike-throwing. Castillo’s hard-contact profile, Toronto’s left-handed balance, Okamoto’s power, and Seattle’s late bullpen all steer the handicap toward the first five.

Best bet: Blue Jays F5 -0.5 +105, playable to -108.

Projected score: Blue Jays lead 3-1 through five, win 4-2.

Best bet: Blue Jays F5 -0.5 (+105) at Mariners
