Athletics vs. Miami Marlins prediction, pick for MLB on Friday 7/03/26

Miami enters West Sacramento at 46-42, still carrying the shine from a 20-6 June. The Athletics are 41-46 and still chasing traction through a bruised roster. The standings point toward Miami, but the board is saying something different. The Athletics sit as home favorites, with a 10.5 total and an aggressive first-five lean. That deserves attention after Miami’s Colorado series changed shape fast. The Marlins scored 14 in the opener, then managed three and four runs in the next two games. That matters here, because another Miami team-total play asks the offense to keep converting traffic. The better angle isolates the early starter gap and avoids trusting either bullpen. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Athletics and the Miami Marlins.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Athletics vs. Marlins prediction, preview

Miami still brings plenty of contact. Otto Lopez leads the club with a .336 average, 23 doubles, five triples, and seven homers. Javier Sanoja is 16-for-38 with a homer and 10 RBI over his last 10 games. Liam Hicks, Kyle Stowers, Xavier Edwards, Griffin Conine, Owen Caissie, Jakob Marsee, and Joe Mack give the order left-handed volume against Jack Perkins. That is enough to make Perkins sweat. It is also enough to keep the full-game over alive. The problem is recent run conversion. Miami just failed to clear five twice at Coors, even with altitude, gaps, and bullpen chaos everywhere. West Sacramento is a strong hitting environment, but it is not Coors. Asking for six Marlins runs again is too thin for the lead pick.

Tyler Phillips has the prettier surface line, but the deeper read is shakier. He enters 1-3 with a 3.02 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts. He also just gave Miami 7.1 innings in his last start, which matters after a rough pitching series. The warning signs sit underneath the ERA. Phillips carries a 4.43 xERA, 4.39 FIP, 4.61 xFIP, 7.2% K-BB rate, 96 Stuff+, and 99 Location+. That is a dangerous profile in a hot, hitter-friendly park. Low swing-and-miss puts too much pressure on balls in play. The Athletics can make that hurt early if Phillips falls behind or leaks sinkers over the plate.

Perkins brings the opposite profile. His 2-3 record, 6.00 ERA, and 1.33 WHIP make him look like the easy fade. His 62 strikeouts, 3.77 xERA, 3.62 FIP, 3.96 xFIP, 19.7% K-BB rate, 102 Stuff+, and 104 Location+ tell a different story. That does not make him safe for nine innings. It makes him more playable in the first five. Perkins has more bat-missing ability, better command indicators, and stronger fielding-independent support than the ERA suggests. Miami can still tag him if the changeup floats or the fastball misses middle. The early window gives Perkins the best version of this matchup before The Athletics’ bullpen enters.

Marlins vs. Athletics pick, best bet

The Athletics’ projected top five gives this bet its shape. Henry Bolte brings speed and immediate pressure. Nick Kurtz is the best bat in the game, with a .279 average, 15 doubles, one triple, and 19 homers. Shea Langeliers adds right-handed lift after homering against the Dodgers. Lawrence Butler gives the group left-handed power, and Jonah Heim extends the first trip with switch-hitting damage. The Athletics just beat the Dodgers 7-1 with 12 hits and three homers from Heim, Langeliers, and Alika Williams. The injuries still matter. Brent Rooker, Jacob Wilson, Tyler Soderstrom, Zack Gelof, and others are missing. That is why the full-game moneyline is too expensive. The top five still creates the cleaner early edge.

The late innings are where the full-game markets get muddy. The Athletics’ bullpen has been a season-long problem. Miami’s bullpen just came out of Colorado with fresh damage and a 14-4 loss on the ledger. That pushes the play away from the full-game side, the full-game over, and another Marlins team total. Sutter Health Park should help bats, with temperatures around 91 degrees, clear skies, and light wind. That environment is worse for Phillips’ contact-heavy profile than Perkins’ better strikeout foundation.

The best bet is Athletics F5 -0.5 (-105). Miami has the better record and enough bats to answer later, but the Athletics have the sharper early setup.

Projected shape: Athletics lead 4-2 through five, then win 7-5.

Best bet: Athletics F5 -0.5 (-105) vs. Marlins
