Everything You Need to Know Before Cape Fear Episode 6

Let’s break down the latest plot developments during last week’s episode, ‘Faith’:

  • A nice little homage to the 1992 film to start this week’s episode. Nevaeh, channeling her inner Robert DeNiro, was ripping a bong and laughing hysterically at the movies. Then, Anna sits down in the row in front of her. “I know Max Cady is your father, and I know he got you to stalk Zach,” she told the teen.
  • Nevaeh responded with hostility, telling Anna that she wanted to “f*** with the hypocrite lawyers who put my dad in a cage.” The two women then get physical, with Anna shoving Nevaeh and her in turn biting Anna. However, as Nevaeh is taunting Mrs. Bowden, she’s pushed and then hit by a car in the middle of the road. The girl manages to get up and run from the scene.
  • As Tom goes out for dinner at a restaurant, he’s met by Max. He admits that Nevaeh is emotionally unstable, and might not even be his daughter. Cady is adamant that he had nothing to do with what happened, having told the girl from prison to leave the Bowdens alone.
  • Natalie is outraged at her mom, having gotten close with ‘Amber’ aka Nevaeh. Anna tells her daughter the truth, stressing that Nevaeh is someone to be avoided.
  • As Max is meeting with journalist Tabitha, he’s interrupted by Crystal. The woman has been stalking Cady for multiple episodes now, even threatening Anna during Episode 5. She claims that things are “better now,” but she still appears frantic at best, obsessed at worst. The pair, now in the backroom of a restaurant, then embrace (er, “hook up”) for the first time in years. However, after the deed is done, Max tells Crystal that she’s a “disgusting, delusional freak…come near me again and I’ll kill you.”
  • Elsewhere, things are getting tense at the Bowden house. Natalie and Zach have an intense standoff over Neveah, resulting in the two being separated by Anna. Zach has a strange totem-like item in his possession, claiming he found it in the garage.
  • Back in Episode 4, Tom kissed his co-worker Lexi. However, things have been spiraling between the two. It’s becoming obvious to others that the two are romantically attached, culminating in Lexi being taken off of a major case. The two have a frank discussion with one another, resulting in a not-so veiled threat towards Tom over a potential HR investigation.
  • A quick visit to see Faith Valentine proves unfruitful for Anna. Neveah’s mother shuts the door in her face after recognizing the woman who shoved her daughter. However, Anna is persistent. She comes back to the house, telling Faith that it’s not Max she’s scared of, but Naveah. Faith reveals that Max has his own religion, what she calls “the devil’s work.” He’s turned Neveah into a disciple, and potentially Zach as well.
  • Max and Tom meet yet again at a bar (does everyone hang out at the same three or four places in Savannah?). Cady asks him what his worst fear is, unrelated to his kids. However, Max already has a good idea, which he shares: it’s entropy. Chaos, disorder, collapse. “Something inside you is dying,” he tells Tom.
  • Max and Tom hit the town, going to a grungier bar on the other side of town. There, they run into the strange couple that dipped their feet in the Bowden’s pool earlier this season. What turns into an uneasy, but friendly, drink turns violent thanks to Max. His romantic advances make the man jealous, leading to an all-out brawl at the bar. Tom does most of the dirty work backing up Cady, including a pair of sucker punches. Unfortunately for the attorney, all the action is caught on camera.
  • After getting a tip from Faith, Anna goes to investigate Neveah’s rundown home. It’s filled with animal skulls, insects and strange religious imagery. Not to mention Zach’s cut-off toe, kept for preservation in a jar. There’s a postcard of a cross sent from prison by Max. On the back, the words “I’LL TAKE YOUR HERE” in all caps.
  • Things get even more disturbing for Anna. Upon returning to the Valentine residence, she finds Faith in bed with half of her head taken off. On the bed is also a potential murder weapon, the bizarre totem that she found Zach with earlier in the episode.
  • Tom is suspended from work, due to a message he claims he never sent Lexi. Whether he did so in a drunken haze, or it was fabricated, remains to be seen. Turns out Anna was suspended from work too, due to her outside investigation over Max. The only positive? Tom now believes his wife; Max is not to be trusted.
  • The episode ends outside of the Bowden house, with Max walking his dog before being approached by Natalie. Anna and Tom come outside, telling Cady to go home. The only problem? He just moved in to the house across the street.
