San Francisco Giants Team Total Over 4.5 Runs

Odds: -115 | Opponent: Arizona Diamondbacks

Happy Zac Gallen Day to all who celebrate! I’m going to continue to target team totals when facing Gallen until he either fixes whatever issues are going on or gets bumped from the rotation (I’m banking on him getting bumped). Gallen just wrapped up the month of June, allowing 26 runs on 40 hits through 27 innings of work. That gives him a .411 wOBA, a 5.99 FIP, and an 8.33 ERA for the month. He allowed at least four runs in four of the five starts he made, making him a primary target for these opposing team totals. This wasn’t just a bad month either; his entire season has been a disaster, indicated by his 6.19 xERA through 86.1 innings.

While both sides of the plate have hit him hard, lefties have been the biggest issue over the past few seasons. Currently, when facing a lefty at home, Gallen has a massive .393 wOBA with five of the 15 home runs he’s allowed and a 5.31 xFIP. The Giants should have a minimum of five lefties in the lineup tonight, putting them in a great spot to hit Gallen hard.

Jonathan Aranda 2+ Total Bases

Odds: -120 | Opponent: Kansas City Royals

Seth Lugo is another pitcher coming off a really bad month of June. He’s been a regression candidate, and it still hasn’t fully caught up to him. His 4.18 ERA comes with a 5.26 xERA. He had his worst month of the season in June, when he allowed 15 runs on 21 hits, six of which were home runs, in 19.1 innings of work. Now he’ll face a Rays lineup that hits righties well, especially Aranda. Coming into tonight, he owns a .401 wOBA with a .232 ISO and a 157 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. It’s hard to pinpoint what pitches Lugo will use, as his arsenal has seven to choose from. That being said, His top two pitches, a sinker and a fastball, both have an ISO over .222, meaning opposing hitters are hitting them for power.

J.T. Ginn Under 14.5 Outs Recorded

Odds: +131 | Opponent: Los Angeles Dodgers

Ginn has been a solid starter for the Athletics this season. Through 88.2 innings, Ginn has a 3.15 ERA, a 3.93 xERA, a 4.02 FIP, and has limited hard contact. However, this feels like a spot where he’ll struggle against the Dodgers at home. Ginn has three pitches that make up 75% of his pitch arsenal: a sinker, change, and cutter. The Dodgers are elite against all of these pitches. Tonight’s expected lineup combines for a .389 wOBA against the sinker, a massive .460 wOBA against the change, and a .382 wOBA against the cutter. Tonight’s weather will give a big bump to bats, as it’ll be hot, humid, and with winds blowing out toward center field. At +131, I’m more than comfortable taking a shot here.
