2026 FIFA World Cup: Norway vs. France Recap, Updated Group I Standings
France Defeats Norway 4-1: Match Recap
France dismantled Norway’s B squad 4-1 in Group I play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with Ousmane Dembélé scoring a first-half hat-trick to send the pre-tournament +475 favorites through as group winners in dominant fashion.
Dembélé was electric from the opening whistle. He put France ahead in the 7th minute, doubled it in the 20th, and completed the hat-trick in the 32nd to put the match out of reach before half-time. Norway briefly threatened a comeback when Thelo Aasgaard pulled one back in the 21st minute, but Dembélé’s third quickly extinguished any hope of a fightback.
Norway were awarded a penalty in the second half, but Jørgen Strand Larsen’s effort went wide and Mike Maignan had little trouble with the attempt. Désiré Doué added a fourth deep in stoppage time to round out a commanding performance. France become group winners with a perfect nine points from three matches. Norway advance as well with six points, but they will need to regroup heading into the knockout round after being thoroughly outclassed on the day.

2026 FIFA World Cup: Senegal vs. Iraq Recap, Updated Group I Standings
Senegal Defeats Iraq 5-0: Match Recap
Senegal rolled past Iraq 5-0 in Group I play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday in Toronto, with Pape Gueye scoring twice off the bench and Habib Diarra, Ismaïla Sarr, and Iliman Ndiaye also finding the net in a historic performance for African football.
Diarra got Senegal off to a flying start, finishing in the 4th minute to settle any early nerves. Iraq managed to stay in the contest through the first half, but the floodgates opened after the break. Sarr doubled the lead in the 56th minute, also providing an assist in the match.
Gueye came off the bench and made an immediate impact, netting in the 59th and 71st minutes to push Senegal out to a commanding four-goal advantage. Ndiaye rounded out the scoring in the 82nd minute, capping a dominant second-half display. Iraq goalkeeper Hassan deserved credit for keeping the margin from being even greater, making five saves after the interval. However, Iraq are eliminated, finishing bottom of Group I without a point.
