Boston Red Sox vs. Colorado Rockies prediction, pick for Tuesday 6/23/26

Coming into the season, few expected the Rockies (31-48) to compete at a high level. The same isn’t true for the Red Sox (31-45), who entered 2026 as a dark horse contender. As things stand, Boston is seven games out of a playoff spot in the American League. Can Colorado make it two straight wins at home on Tuesday?

The Red Sox are favorites (-164) over the Rockies, with the over/under set at 10.5 runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s showdown between Boston and Colorado on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Red Sox vs. Rockies pick, best bet

  • Red Sox -1.5 (-106): Colorado is handing the ball to Sullivan, who hasn’t impressed over two career starts. The Red Sox are terrible offensively, but most of their struggles come against righties, not left-handers. As for Gray, he should keep things from getting out of hand against a decent but unspectacular Rockies lineup.

Red Sox vs. Rockies prediction, preview

Although their hitting is suspect (more on that later), the Red Sox have gotten solid contributions from their rotation. That includes offseason pickup Sonny Gray, who remains a quality arm at 36 years old. Through 69.1 innings pitched, the right-hander has notched a 3.12 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 55 strikeouts (7.1 K/9). A quick glance at Gray’s advanced metrics might not generate much excitement. With that being said, he excels at two things: limiting free passes and keeping the ball on the ground. A 6.0% walk rate and 48.1% ground ball rate both rank within the 76th percentile among qualified starters.

That last statistic could prove crucial going into Tuesday’s contest at hitter-friendly Coors Field. As most fans know, Denver’s mile high elevation tends to give the ball extra carry. Unsurprisingly, that’s led to some drastic splits for Colorado’s best hitters. As a unit, the Rockies are averaging the 13th-most runs per game at home (4.53). However, they’ve only hit 37 home runs in 38 games at Coors. The Rox prefer to do most of their damage via hard contact rather than power. That could spell trouble against Gray, a pitcher that doesn’t put many runners on.

It’s not as if the Rockies have much support on the mound in this one. Sean Sullivan will take the hill tonight, his third appearance of 2026. So far, it’s been rough for the southpaw. He’s coughed up eight earned runs over 7.0 innings of work en route to a nightmarish 10.29 ERA. The scariest part? Both of those appearances came on the road. In addition, Sullivan has only managed to strike out four total batters so far. Toeing the slab in Denver can prove difficult for grizzled veterans, let alone unproven hurlers. It’s safe to say the odds are against Colorado’s rookie tonight.

If there’s any reason for Colorado fans to be hopeful tonight, it’s due to the visiting hitters. As previously mentioned, the Red Sox have been startlingly bad on offense. They’re averaging an American League-worst 3.89 runs per game. Although the worst of those struggles have come at Fenway Park, Boston hasn’t been much better on the road. That’s without mentioning the absence of Roman Anthony (finger), arguably the team’s most talented hitter. With that being said, this is a favorable matchup on a number of levels. The Red Sox have a .743 OPS against left-handed pitching, eighth-best in baseball.

Best Bet: Red Sox -1.5 (-106)

Say what you will about Boston’s light-hitting lineup, but this squad is far more dangerous against southpaws. Sullivan, making his first career start at Coors Field, isn’t someone bettors can trust with any kind of confidence. On the other side, Gray’s knack for preventing the ball from elevating should serve him well tonight. Back the Red Sox on the road this evening.
