Norway thrashed every opponent in its path during European qualifying, but that wasn’t a guarantee that they’d keep that hot form going into the World Cup, especially since they were placed in a Group of Death featuring France, Senegal, and Iraq.
However, Norway silenced any doubts early on in their match against Iraq, trouncing their way to a 4-1 victory that sees them atop Group E after the first day of matches. They’ll have a proper test against Senegal at 8 p.m. ET in New York/New Jersey.

FT: Norway 3-2 Senegal. Norway are into the Round of 32, while Senegal are on the verge of elimination. Senegal had 16 shots compared to 13 for Norway. In terms of shots on goal, Norway had seven while Senegal had four. What a game.
99′: CHANCE. Ismaรฏla Sarr gets free on a corner kick and has a great look at goal but his header goes over the bar. That was a chance for his hat trick, and likely the last chance for Senegal in this one.
92′: GOAL FOR SENEGAL. It’s Ismaรฏla Sarr again who scores to get Senegal within one with seven minutes of extra time remaining. Nicolas Jackson with the assist. Don’t go anywhere folks. Norway 3-2 Senegal.
57′: GOAL FOR NORWAY. It’s Erling Haaland yet again. There’s a scrap in the box for possession, and Norway ends up with it. The ball is played across to Haaland, who has a tough finish there and one times it into the goal with his weaker foot. That’s a great finish in off the crossbar. Norway 3-1 Senegal.
52′: GOAL FOR SENEGAL. It’s Ismaรฏla Sarr who finds a way to get a touch on a great ball from Sadio Mane in the box. Sarr had a lot of work to do there to get around defenders and get a touch on it but he does, and scores. Norway 2-1 Senegal.
51′: CHANCE. Nicolas Jackson gets on the end of a cross but his header is saved. That’s the biggest chance of the game for Senegal who have to throw caution to the wind now to try and get back in this.
47′: GOAL FOR NORWAY. He was bound to score. Norway get on a fast break, and Martin Odegaard slips a ball into the path of Erling Haaland who finds the back of the net as you would expect. 2-0 Norway.
HT: Norway 1-0 Senegal. The possession has been 50/50 in the first half, but Norway have had the better chances. Norway have eight shots to six for Senegal. They have four shots on target, compared to one for Senegal. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Norway are -220 to win currently. A draw is priced at +285, while a Senegal win is set at +800.
48′: DOUBLE CHANCE FOR HAALAND. Mendy makes another mistake, trying to play out from the back and Haaland takes the ball from him, but misses the chance from a tight angle and its the post. The ball is played back into the box and Haaland gets a head on it, but Mendy saves it again.
37′: GOAL FOR NORWAY. It’s the substitute Marcus Holmgren Pedersen who gets his first ever goal for Norway. It’s a horrific mistake from Kalidou Koulibaly who gives the ball away cheaply outside the box, and Pedersen’s shot somehow gets through past รdouard Mendy. That definitely should have been saved. 1-0 Norway.
37′: MASSIVE CHANCE. Erling Haaland finds space in the box and lays it off to Odegaard who has a clear sight at goal but he hits it straight at รdouard Mendy and it’s saved. That’s the best chance of the game so far.
22′: Hydration break. Erling Haaland has only had two touches in this game so far. If Norway wants to win this, they’re going to need to get their star man more involved.
14′: Another chance for Norway. This time it’s Martin Odegaard, who can’t find the target with a shot just inside the penalty area. An exciting start to this one, as Senegal have also looked dangerous going the other way.
11′: It’s an early sub for Norway due to an injury. Julian Ryerson is taken off and replaced by Marcus Holmgren Pedersen.
3โฒ: CHANCE! It’s all Norway early on, as they are getting corner after corner. On the latest one, Kristoffer Ajer gets his head on it but it’s saved by รdouard Mendy. Great start for the Norwegians.
1โฒ: And weโre off! We have kickoff in New Jersey.
