We’ve got a jam-packed slate of WNBA action today, starting with the 5-7 Mystics heading to Connecticut to take on the 2-13 Sun. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with Washington entering as 3.5-point favorites and the total sitting at 163.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Mystics vs. Sun Preview
Washington has had a roller-coaster season, failing to string together two wins in a row, struggling with offensive consistency, and finding itself on the losing end of a Caitlin Clark buzzer-beater. However, the Mystics got redemption with a buzzer-beater of their own against the Tempo, courtesy of Sonia Citron’s last-second jumper, giving Washington its much-needed fifth win of the season. But just when the ship seemed afloat, the Mystics were routed by New York in their last outing — hence, the roller coaster. Tonight, they draw a favorable matchup against the last-place Sun and have enough talent on the floor to take advantage of Connecticut’s porous defense.
Let’s talk offense. Citron has cooled off lately after averaging 19.2 PPG over her first five games, putting up 14.7 PPG over her last four while shooting a subpar 38.5% from the field. The real issue, though, has been her three-point shooting. After leading the league in 3P% last season, she’s shooting just 31.1% from deep this year, a big reason why the Mystics rank 13th in team three-point percentage (28.1%). Kiki Iriafen, Washington’s second option and dominant force on the glass, missed the last game with an ankle injury and is listed as questionable for Wednesday. If she’s good to go, the Mystics should have a clear edge on the boards, as they rank fifth in rebounds per game this season. Rookie Lauren Betts put together an 18-point performance on Friday, but I’ll be looking to Citron and Shakira Austin to carry the offensive load.
On the other hand, Connecticut has struggled to put together complete performances, dropping five straight games while winning just two contests all season. Plain and simple, this roster isn’t built to compete in 2026. With the franchise set to move to Houston in 2027, this year feels very much like a transition season. Veteran Brittney Griner has contributed 12.4 points per game, though she’s appeared in only seven of the team’s 15 games, while 23-year-old Aneesah Morrow is averaging a double-double and pulling down 10.5 rebounds per game. Leïla Lacan has improved as a distributor, but the Sun simply don’t have enough scoring to consistently compete offensively.
Mystics vs. Sun Pick, Best Bet
Connecticut ranks second-to-last in the league in offensive efficiency and third-to-last in defensive efficiency, and unfortunately, I don’t believe its five-game losing streak will be snapped against Washington tonight.
