Eight years ago, Kylian Mbappé etched his name into World Cup lore as he helped France win it all at just 19 years old, scoring in the final. Four years ago, he became legend, smashing home a hat trick in the final against Argentina despite Les Bleus’ defeat. In 2026, he’s chasing history; at just 27 years old, he’s only four goals behind Miroslav Klose’s all-time goals record.
Mbappé will open his 2026 World Cup campaign against Senegal at 3 p.m. ET in New York/New Jersey, and he’ll start at striker with an absurdity of riches (Desiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, and Michael Olise) behind him to set him up.
Throughout the World Cup, DraftKings Network will be highlighting some of the stars of the tournament, tracking their performances in all of their matches. Here’s how Mbappé performed against the Lions of Teranga:

Tracking Kylian Mbappé
Follow along as DKNetwork tracks Mbappé’s and France’s performance against Senegal! This section will be updated.
FT: And take a breath, everyone. That’s it. France 3, Senegal 1, thanks to some second-half heroics from Kylian Mbappé. Your move, Norway and Iraq.
90’+6: WHAAATT?!?!?!??!?! NO SOONER THAN THE DUST HAD SETTLED ON MBAYE’S GOAL, MBAPPÉ STRIKES AGAIN WITH A SCREAMER FROM OUTSIDE THE BOX! A BANGER INTO THE TOP LEFT CORNER, RIGHT PAST A DIVING MENDY! THAT’S TWO GOALS FOR MBAPPÉ ALREADY THIS GAME (+500)! 14 FOR HIS CAREER! 4+ SHOTS (-200) AND ALL FOUR ON TARGET (+550)! KYLIAN MBAPPÉ, TAKE A BOW.
90’+5: GOAL FOR SENEGAL! Ibrahim Mbaye dekes Theo Hernández with an unbelievable run down the right side of the box and fires it right at Mike Maignan, where it’s ricocheted into the right side of the net. Could a comeback be on for the Lions of Teranga? It’s not over at all!
85′: A shot on goal for Mbappé! He gets an opportunity in the left side of the box as France turn on the jets, but it’s a weak, left-footed dribbler and poses no problem for Mendy. 3+ Shots (-500) and 3+ Shots on Target (+210) hit.
82′: GOAL, BRADLEY BARCOLA! FRANCE IS UP 2-0! Barcola makes a brilliant run, and Rabiot found him from the defensive half! A beautiful chip from Barcola over Mendy’s outstretched arm! Les Bleus (-215 ML) will take all three points unless the Lions of Teranga can produce a miracle!
77′: He giveth and he taketh away! Mbappé has both committed a foul on Habib Diarra and drawn one in the last minute alone.
74′: Little cross-sport moment here as the New York Knicks’ Miles McBride, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby are shown on the broadcast.
72′: We’re back after the hydration break now. I had to hydrate too after the intensity of the last few minutes.
68′: OH MY NICOLAS JACKSON! HE JUST SCORED AT THE NEAR POST BUT HE WAS OFFSIDES! IT STAYS 1-0 FOR FRANCE!
66′: GOAL, GOAL, GOAL, GOAL, GOAL, KYLIAN MBAPPÉ (-105)! FRANCE LEAD, 1-0! Amazing, amazing find from Olise as Mbappé made a run to the near post! AND HE IS INEVITABLE! Mendy couldn’t get to that one low and to his right! That’s two shots for Mbappé (-1800), two on target (-650), and, of course, ONE GOAL!
64′: OH, WHAT A RUN FOR MBAPPÉ! He sneaks through the defense at full sprint and Olise delivers a beautiful ball, but Mendy’s charge was enough to parry it away from danger!
61′: OFFICIAL: NO PENALTY FOR FRANCE! The VAR’s judgment has been rejected!
58′: VAR CHECK FOR A POSSIBLE PENALTY! Mbappé went down in the box after a challenge from Sadio Mané, and France’s players are livid at the initial call for no penalty!
57′: Mbappé’s first shot and shot on target (-650) of the match! He was making a nice run through the box and Michael Olise found him! Mendy got the low shot with his leg to deflect it over the bar, but that was Mbappé’s best action by far!
52′: It’s a great breakaway for France, but Doué lays it to Mbappé on the left wing…and he immediately gets dispossessed!
47′: That’s more like it from France. Desiré Doué found some space up the middle and fired a left-footed rocket that missed the mark, but it’s Les Bleus’ best opportunity of the match (which isn’t saying much).
46′: We’re back! Les Bleus will need to be so much better in the second half. Can they turn it around?
HT: The referee blows for halftime, which will feel like a steal for France after Ismaila Sarr missed an absolute sitter that should’ve put Senegal up. Zero goals, zero assists, zero shots, and a bunch of turnovers for Mbappé in the first half.
45’+5: Mbappé finally snuck in by the back post, but Jules Koundé’s cross was frankly awful, and it settled harmlessly in the corner. Who could’ve seen this lackadaisical French attack coming?!
45’+1: Mbappé, who made the second-fewest defensive contributions per 90 minutes of any player in any of the world’s top 20 leagues, just chased down Édouard Mendy to put the pressure on. No dice there, but his defensive effort is a sign of how desperate France already is.
43′: Sarr is okay. The Lions of Teranga had to play for a minute with 10 men, since play was stopped for his injury, but now he’s back on the pitch.
41′: Theo Hernández’s pass to Mbappé in the right side ended up behind him. Ismaila Sarr is injured for Senegal, and the referee has blown the whistle.
31′: Another turnover from Mbappé! What is going on?
30′: We’re back after the hydration break! Mbappé looked upset during the break. Can France turn it around?
25′: SENEGAL ALMOST TAKES THE LEAD, THANKS TO MBAPPÉ! He was dispossessed, leading to a fast break for Senegal, and Nicolas Jackson hit the right post and ricocheted off of Mike Maignan’s foot and out of bounds! Corner for the Lions of Teranga!
23′: Corner, France! A solid run by Mbappé leads to a deflection beyond the end line! His first real involvement in the attack today.
14′: OH, DEMBÉLÉ, WHAT WAS THAT? Mbappé made a run, though he was perhaps in an offsides position, and Dembélé way over-cooked him, passing it straight to Édouard Mendy. Momentum is definitely turning in Les Bleus’ favor, but still an imperfect performance from France’s two apex stars in Mbappé and Dembélé.
12′: Mbappé finally got a touch in the box, but he couldn’t control Dembélé’s pass! A good job getting him into a dangerous position, but good defending by Kalidou Koulibaly to snuff out the chance immediately.
11′: Yesterday, a European giant and tournament favorite (Spain) was held to a draw by a West African team in Cabo Verde, and so far, Les Bleus have not gotten much going against the Lions of Teranga. Senegal might just be the best team on the continent, so could an upset (+600 ML) be in order?
4′: Mbappé had a breakaway down the center of the pitch! Rabiot found him, but it was just a little behind him and he couldn’t quite get control. Senegal has looked the slightly better team so far.
1′: We have action here in New Jersey! Les Bleus (-210) kick it out of bounds, allowing them to set up the press early!
